HyperX Cloud III Wireless Headphones review: Excellent in almost every aspect
HyperX has delivered a new addition to its hardware lineup of the beloved Cloud series of headsets - but is it any good? Find out in GGRecon's review.
If your main purpose for these headphones is gaming, then you're more than covered on every element you could want from a gaming headset. The noise cancellation is great for immersion, and the bass levels only make your experience feel that much more realistic. The microphone is perfect for voice chat, and the easily adjustable volume levels mean you have absolute control with the simple spin of a wheel. They are hassle-free, which is exactly what you want when it comes to gaming.
The HyperX Cloud III Wireless headset is a very solid outing. The battery lasts for what seems like a lifetime, and the headphones are very comfy to wear, even for prolonged periods of time in one sitting. They stand out above a lot of their competitors and are so simple to pick up and use. I would highly recommend you give them a try.

I always find myself a bit sceptical when it comes to wireless headphones. Maybe I have been burnt in the past by some of the lower quality models with their tinny sound and battery life that is nowhere near the promised amount. Or maybe, I'm just a retro person at heart who prefers to have the classic wired method when it comes to listening to my media. The HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones have convinced me that way of thinking is archaic now, and have delivered on all fronts when it comes to how a pair of headphones should perform.

Comfort is key
One thing I've noticed over the years of working in media and wearing headphones for such prolonged amounts of time is that I have a very peculiar-shaped head. It’s a double crown, so naturally, this means finding a pair of headphones that can comfortably sit on my dome for hours on end is nearly impossible. After some in-depth testing, I can confirm that the HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones can comfortably sit on my head for a good few hours at a time without me really noticing they are even there.
Not being able to feel that you are wearing headphones is, for me, the best compliment a set of headphones can be given. It means they are ridiculously comfortable, to the point where you can go about your business without feeling like you have something weighing down on your neck all day. This doesn't mean they are low-quality, either. The band around the top of the headset is nice and spongy, with it being able to snuggly sit on your head and mould itself to the shape needed.
The memory foam on the ear pieces allows them to shape themselves into your ears so they can sit on them without feeling like they are crushing your head. That being said, they do clamp onto your head pretty tight, and the wiring between the headband and the actual ear cups can cause some occasional discomfort. That being said, even after wearing them for a good few hours, I didn't find myself in much discomfort at all.
Adding to this comfort is the fact that the HyperX Cloud III Wireless headphones have a 120-hour battery life. I have been using these for a good two weeks now and have only had to charge them once. They also charge ridiculously fast, meaning you won’t be waiting around for ages until you can use them again. It’s so often the case that the battery lasts half the amount of time promised, but even after two weeks of using them, they were still at 50% battery level, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Perfect for gaming
You won't struggle to hear your teammates with the HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones, that is a guarantee right there. The volume wheel on the headphones is really easy to use and can adjust your volume to the perfect level with ease.
There’s plenty of volume here for you to mess around with, arguably too much volume. If you listen to these on the max, you'll likely be hard of hearing after a while. I found that hovering around the 60% volume level was absolutely perfect and covered all the bases necessary for gaming and talking to your teammates. They also cancel out external noise very adequately, so you won’t be distracted by any noises around you while you are gaming.
The bass can get a little overwhelming at times, so some balancing is definitely needed when you first get them all set up. If you are using these to listen to music, you'll notice that the bass levels will overwhelm the treble and mids, but they won’t drown them out fully, meaning you will still be able to hear the vocals on your music tracks - just maybe not as crisply when compared to some other models.
Gaming-wise, the HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones are absolutely perfect. The bass levels have you fully immersed in the carnage of an FPS game, or have you leaping out of your skin when a jump scare happens in a horror game. The bass provides the perfect level of immersion, with explosions, enemy fire, and shouts from your teammates blaring from each of the earphones and fully engrossing you in the action.
The fact that the headphones eliminate background noise means you can feel even more included in the virtual world you are involved in, allowing for next-level immersion levels and upping your game by allowing you to hear where your enemies are moving with crisp and clear clarity. You will be able to figure out what is going on around you just from the audio alone, giving you a huge advantage over the other players on the battlefield and allowing you to position yourself somewhere where you can fully take advantage of being able to hear the enemy's movements and gunshots. It’s as pay-to-win as you can get without dropping your money on the actual game itself!
The microphone is also excellent and can easily be added or removed from the headphones. Being able to fully remove the microphone from the headset is a great addition because headphones that have the microphone on a hinge can become so cluttered and messy after a while. The audio clarity from the microphone is really high quality, so your teammates won’t complain that you sound like you are talking to them from the bottom of a well.
The Verdict
So, should you buy these headphones? That's quite a loaded question and one that can only really be answered depending on what your main intention for the headphones actually is. The HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones are excellent in many different aspects and really have helped me when I have been doing audio and video editing. The clarity and audio performance the headphones provide are perfect for when I am editing long-form videos, and the comfort only helps improve that more. The fact that I can wear these for a few hours without having to either adjust them or remove them is brilliant as an editor, and they have provided comfort more so than any other pair of headphones I have owned in the past.
If your main purpose for these headphones is gaming, then you're more than covered on every element you could want from a gaming headset. For those buying these mainly for listening to music, I would suggest looking elsewhere. While they are still a fairly decent set of headphones when it comes to listening to music, it’s clear this was not the main purpose they were designed for. The bass levels, even when adjusted, will still very much overpower the rest of the audio and kind of take away from a lot of the music you will be listening to, unless it’s bass-heavy music.
