In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there is an assortment of status effects and conditions that can put Link in some serious danger. One of the newest and most deadly is Gloom.

Here, we’ll be going over what Gloom is in the game, how to get rid of it and how to complete the Gloom-Borne Illness quest in pursuit of some delicious (we hope) Gloom Porridge.

How do you get rid of Gloom in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Despite its potency, there are several recipes you can whip up to improve your chances against the Gloom.

To get rid of Gloom in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the best thing you can do is stock up on Sundelions. These herbs allow you to cook Sunny recipes that will help cure Link of his Gloom when cooked in a tasty dish.

What is Gloom in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

As you journey through Hyrule, the skies above and the Depths below, you will undoubtedly come across a mention of Gloom. After all, it is why Link and Zelda were exploring deep beneath Hyrule Castle in the first place.

Gloom is a new status effect in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that, when Link is afflicted with it, reduces his maximum amount of hearts. This limits the amount you can heal when injured.

Gloom can be inflicted on Link from several sources, including the dark red and black goop on the ground, enemies such as the Gloom Hands and bosses like King Gleeok.

How to start Gloom-borne Illness quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

As you embark on your journey in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will eventually happen upon Kakariko Village. A firm favorite in the Zelda series, Kakariko Village is home to many a notable side quest, including the Gloom-borne Illness.

As you head to the Amour Shop, the owner, Claree will inform you that her Grandmother has been stricken with an illness, hence why she has to charge extortionate prices for her wares.

When she sends you off to find her sister, Lasli, you’ll quickly find out that all her Grandmother will eat is porridge. So, it is time to get cooking!

How to get Gloom Porridge in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

It isn’t just any porridge you will need to make. This porridge, called Sunny Veggie Porridge, will be used to get rid of Gloom.

To make this Gloom porridge in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’re going to need:

Ingredient Location
Hylian Rice Out in the wild or bought from Hateno Village Store
Fresh Milk Bought at most stores. The closest for this quest is Hateno Village Store
Sundelions Found in the wild in Hyrule Field and the Sky Islands

Once you have made this bowl of Gloom-resistant porridge, you will be able to give it to the Grandmother.

In return, your reward is reduced (albeit still expensive) armour prices, a bowl of Energizing Porridge, and, most importantly, the recipe to make Sunny Veggie Porridge any time, and get rid of the Gloom for good.
