How many people play THE FINALS in 2024? Player count for Season 3 explained
THE FINALS player count has dropped off dramatically since it first launched, but can we consider it a dead game? Here's what the current player count looks like for 2024.

Despite THE FINALS launching to critical acclaim back in December 2023, it’s fair to say that it’s struggled to hold much of its initially captive player count. Debuting on Steam with an all-time peak of 242,000 players, it initially seemed promising that Embark's shooter could be one for the ages.
Player counts have dropped since then, but is the drop enough to kill the game off?
THE FINALS monthly player count
Season 2 has been out for three months now (with Season 4 announced recently) and the game is still bringing in around 2 million players on all platforms each month according to ActivePlayer.io.
This is an incredibly healthy playerbase, all things considered, with it very easy to find populated matches on all platforms. Of course, that's helped by the inclusion of crossplay.
However, the monthly player count is trending downwards slightly, with a month-on-month decrease of a few per cent each time. This is likely due to the length of Season 3, which has been ongoing for several months.
THE FINALS daily player count
The daily peak is currently sitting at around 17,600 players on Steam (via SteamCharts) over the past 30 days, with an average of 11,420.
This has been trending downward every month since the start of 2024, with the exception of June, when Season 3 began.
The current player numbers are far from the peak that the game saw when it first launched, and it's going to take a big content update to turn that around, but the numbers are still healthy.
Is THE FINALS a dead game?
Ultimately, it’s up to the individual player to decide for themselves whether a game is ‘dead’ or not. If you ask me, a game is alive and thriving as long as:
- There are enough players to host a match without long queue times
- New content is being released for the game
Given that it’s still always possible to find a match in THE FINALS, and that Embark is still releasing regular seasonal content for the game, it’s not quite a ‘dead game’ just yet.
While it can be easy to assume that THE FINALS is a ‘dead game’ due to the massive disparity between its launch player count and now, that’s not really the case. In fact, it’s quite normal for the player count of a game to drop dramatically a few months after release.
What's more, it mostly seems that there is a big disparity between the numbers of players on PC and console. While the daily Steam numbers seem quite low, adding them to the monthly player numbers with console platforms paints a much bigger picture.
Comparing THE FINALS to other shooters in the same vein, Call of Duty currently has a 24-hour peak of 101k players, around a fifth of what it was during its all-time peak.
Likewise, Battlefield 2042 - a game that’s generally considered 'dead' - currently has a 24-hour peak of 11.5k players. Again, this is around a tenth of the concurrent players that it achieved when it first launched on Steam.
