No, Stellar Blade won't have multiplayer or co-op
Here is everything you need to know about whether or not Stellar Blade will have any multiplayer/co-op modes or if the game will be completely single-player.
Stellar Blade is the very first console game from SHIFT UP and will be released very soon, but if you’ve seen trailers for the game you may be wondering if there is any multiplayer or co-op planned.
The game follows EVE, who has crash-landed on an abandoned Earth and finds herself stranded until taking refuge with the remaining survivors. After playing the demo, it’s clear to see where the game takes inspiration from, including with the gameplay which has a SoulsLike feel to it. It’s not unheard of for those types of games to support some form of online play so keep reading to see if Stellar Blade does too.
Stellar Blade devs are clear about multiplayer
If you want to play a game with friends where you get to team up or go head-to-head then sadly Stellar Blade isn’t going to provide that, as there is no multiplayer or co-op mode to speak of.
In a recent interview the game’s director, Kim Hyung Tae, stated, ”To be honest, I often hear advice from people around me that it would be better to make games that have higher profit margins. But what our industry needs more than anything is variety, isn’t it?
"Console titles, that is single-player games with an ending, have a very important value in themselves," she continued. "A market where such games continue to be made and coexist with other genres and platforms is healthier. That’s why Shift Up will continue to take on the challenge of console games in the future. We have a strong desire to continue to create games that allow many gamers to enjoy to the end and return to reality feeling good.”
From what the director said, it feels like the studio is very committed to developing single-player games, meaning there won’t be any multiplayer modes added to the game later down the line.
