Starfield's Shattered Space expansion brings a bunch of new content to the spacefaring role-playing game, with a new questline and major location for players to experience. Here's everything you need to know about what's new.
Everything new in Shattered Space
New planet
The biggest part of the Shattered Space DLC is the new planet Va'ruun'kai. This is located in the Kavnyk system, and you'll be taken there as part of the new storyline.
Va'ruun'kai is a moon to Kavnyk I and offers a full planet to explore, completely handcrafted by the developers, meaning new repeating procedural content like many of the planets in the base game.
The centrepiece of the planet is the city of Daza, but the rest of the planet is populated with more than 50 unique locations to explore.
New quests
With the new planet and locations is a new questline to contextualise it all. The House Va'Ruun questline makes up the main part of the Shattered Space expansion and lets you uncover more about the faction that was only hinted at in the base game.
In addition to this main story, there are dozens of side quests and misc activities to complete across the city of Dazra and the planet itself. Just wandering around the city will trigger a fair few, but like any RPG, you can speak to several different NPCs to go on new adventures.
Enemy AI
Bethesda has never been great at enemy AI, but the DLC does make some reworks to enemies, making them more aggressive and tactical to provide a new challenge.
This is best exemplified by the new Vortex Phantom enemies, who zip around quickly to flank you or overwhelm you with attacks. They often set up ambushes for you as well when you explore, so be on the lookout.
These changes to AI also are reflected in the base game's enemies, so it should make the overall experience a bit more challenging if you are playing for the first time or replaying.
New gear
What would be the point of an RPG expansion without new armour and weapons to find? Expect to come across tonnes of new gear on the enemies you encounter, in containers in the various locations, and on the bodies of House Va'Ruun characters across the DLC.
There are also new unique items to find if you're good at exploring off the beaten path or make the right choices in quests, so you grab some truly powerful equipment that will define your playstyle and experience.
New update
In addition to all of the new content that's strictly part of Shattered Space, the new update that comes with it also makes some changes and adjustments to the base game. You can find the full patch notes here, detailing general changes, bug fixes, and more.
