Throughout your Starfield adventures, it's vital to know what Quantum Essence is as well as how to use it in-game, as it's something you'll likely want to use pretty regularly when exploring the Settled Systems.

As you traverse the galaxy found in Bethesda's Starfield, you'll come across plenty of new things to learn about, including the different religions and a boatload of different ship parts and types to uncover.

One of these is Quantum Essence, so here's everything you'll need to know about it.

SPOILER WARNING: This guide may contain story spoilers for the latter sections of the game.

What is Quantum Essence?

Quantum Essence is the resource in Starfield that powers your Starborn Powers. You'll know that you have access to Starborn powers as after earning your first power, a blue bar will then appear on your HUD underneath your health bar.

When using your powers in the game, this metre will decrease, but by consuming Quantum Essence, you will recover your Starborn Powers much quicker.

This means that you can chain up your attacks, rinsing through your powers constantly - and hopefully getting yourself out of a jam or two along the way. Starborn Powers range from resurrecting dead bodies to cutting off the oxygen supply in the area, or even unleashing a devastating explosion, making them a fantastic addition to your arsenal overall.

How to get Quantum Essence in Starfield

The only way you can get Quantum Essence is by killing Starborn enemies. Starborn enemies will appear more frequently as you progress throughout the game, and as you kill more of them, they will even start to appear mooching about in space.

You will also find them as you explore the temples provided to you by Vladimir, as you will need to beat one in order to earn a new Starborn power.

Using Quantum Essence

In order to use Quantum Essence in Starfield, you'll need to go to the power screen, which can be accessed by opening up your menu by pressing 'Start' on Xbox or 'Tab' on PC and selecting the option at the very top of the dial.

From this screen, you can select the 'use Quantum Essence' option in the bottom left of the screen, and that's it!
