With Starfield on the horizon, many long-term fans of Bethesda titles will likely be wondering whether it will have mods. Bethesda Game Studios is known for its unique support of mods compared to its peers in the industry, with games like Skyrim having a shelf-life far beyond most titles, to the point that some only consider it a great game because of these mods.
Plenty will be hoping for the same in relation to Starfield, which is set to take its RPG formula to the stars for the first time. So, if you want to know whether Starfield will have mod support like previous titles from the studio, we've got you covered.
- Make sure you also meet the Starfield system requirements, especially if you want to add mods to the game.
Does Starfield have mod support?
We can confirm that Starfield will have mods, thanks to full mod support from Creation Engine 2.
Starfield mod support was first confirmed by Tod Howard during a Reddit AMA back in 2021. "Our plan [is to have] full mod support like our previous games", Howard wrote in response to a question.
"Our modding community has been with us for 20 years. We love what they do and hope to see more make a career out of it."
One of the reasons that Bethesda games have become so known for modding is due to how relatively easy it is to make mods for games like The Elder Scrolls or Fallout. This is thanks to the Gamebyro engine - which Creation Engine 2 is based on - that was first used for Oblivion back in 2006.
We fully expect mods to come flooding in from day one once players get their hands on the game on September 6, as has been the case with every previous Bethesda Game Studios release. It's worth noting that the majority of these will only be available for PC, but Bethesda may continue their support of porting select mods to console that players can purchase.
So that's everything you need to know about whether Starfield will feature mod support following its launch. Be sure to check out our Starfield homepage for the latest news, or our breakdown of everything you can expect to see in Starfield - including its release date.
