Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is almost here, and with the second title in this Star Wars game series, more players are wondering "is Cal Kestis canon?". Here is all you need to know about the protagonist in this Star Wars Jedi: Survivor guide, including the answer to whether Cal Kestis is canon in the Star Wars universe.

Is Cal Kestis canon in Star Wars?

Surely to the delight of many fans, yes, Cal Kestis is canon in Star Wars. That means the events in which we've seen Cal so far; the previous game, Jedi: Fallen Order and the new Jedi: Survivor; are part of the main Star Wars canon.

This is because any Star Wars title released after the 2014 Disney acquisition is automatically considered canon unless stated otherwise.

An example of this exception would be the anthology anime series, Star Wars: Visions, of which executive producer James Waugh revealed that the studios behind each episode weren't required "to tie into the larger chronology" - meaning it didn't have to connect to the main canon.

This also separates Cal Kestis from the alternative Star Wars Legends/Expanded Universe canon, filled with certain characters and stories that pre-date the Disney Acquisition. These include Starkiller in The Force Unleashed games, or the earlier 2003-2005 Clone Wars animated series.

The fact Cal Kestis is canon will definitely be the fact a relief to any Fallen Order players who might have been unsure. After all, the Padawan Order 66 survivor-turned-Jedi became a fan favourite over the 3 and a half years since his first starring game came out.

With Jedi: Fallen Order set in 14 BBY, 5 years after the Clone Wars - and Jedi Survivor set 5 years after that - Cal Kestis' canon timeline fits quite nicely with other Star Wars properties.

For instance, while  Jedi: Survivor takes place in 9 BBY, so does the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Since this is also the 10-year halfway point between the end of the prequels and the original trilogy, this is an interesting and roomy point in the Star Wars canon for new stories to take place.
