How to evolve Inkay into Malamar in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Indigo Disk
Inkay has returned in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Indigo Disk DLC, so here's all the information you need to evolve it into Malamar with a special trick.
Inkay has returned in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Indigo Disk DLC, which means you're going to have to perform a special trick if you want to evolve it into Malamar.
While most Pokemon evolve simply by levelling up, some creatures require an evolution item, a trade with a friend, or even a special trick before they will evolve. Inkay is one of the most unique evolutions in the game, as you'll need to physically move your Switch console.
Evolving Inkay into Malamar in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Inkay can evolve into Malamar as soon as it hits Level 30, but there's a secret trick you'll also need to perform: Turn your Nintendo Switch console upside down as Malamar levels up!
This means you'll need to be playing the game in handheld mode. If you forget to turn the Switch upside down, you can try again next time Inkay levels up. Speed this process up with Exp. Candies or a Rare Candy.
A quick note: Your Switch must be upside down before the level-up process begins. This makes giving it a Rare Candy or Exp. Candy a little difficult as you're going to have to read upside down!
Where to find Inkay in The Indigo Disk
If you're wondering where to find an Inkay, you'll need to visit the tropical Coastal Biome in the northeastern section of the Terarium map. I've marked the location I found them on the map above.
Inkay are a common spawn in this area, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one! And the chances are it will be over Level 30 when you catch it, so evolving it into Malamar will be a breeze.
