Evolve your Gimmighoul with this mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Gimighoul is a new Pokemon with an unusual interaction with evolution, here is what you need to know about it.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet bring plenty of interesting new Pokemon into the fold. Gimmighoul is a strange little creature, that appears in two forms and has some very specific mechanics regarding evolution. Here is everything you need to know for evolving Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
What you need for evolving Gimmighoul
Put simply, evolving Gimmighoul requires collecting many Gimmighoul coins. Doing so involves tracking down an awful lot of Gimmighoul, so let us cover that first. Your first encounters with Gimmighoul are likely to be in its Roaming Form, which is to say the little guy is out of the box.
You find them all over Paldea, they can be found around Pokemon Centres, in towns, and out in the wild, particularly found around ruins or other structures in the game.
You cannot battle or catch these Gimmighoul, the only thing you can do is interact with them and receive some Gimmighoul Coins for your effort. To catch a Gimmighoul, you will need to find one in its Chest Form.
These Pokemon are quite rare, even when you catch one the Pokedex tells you the habitat is unknown. Seemingly they like to appear at the top of towers, so seek out any of those tall watchtowers around the region and climb it.
To evolve the Pokemon you will have to catch at least one, but regardless you will want to seek them out. This is because battling the Chest Form Gimmighouls, whether you catch them or defeat them, will net you up to 50 Gimmighoul Coins at a time. This is necessary, as the requirement to evolve the Pokemon involves having 999 Gimmighoul Coins.
How to evolve Gimmighoul
Once you have caught a Gimmighoul and gathered 999 Gimmighoul Coins, you are ready to evolve it. This part is quite simple, with those conditions met, you simply need to level up your Gimmighoul. Much like other odd evolution methods, like Pokemon that evolve with a high happiness level, the trigger is to level the Pokemon up once the requirement is met.
The Pokemon does not need to be at or above a particular level, it could be a brand-new level one Gimmighoul, it will evolve on leveling up if you have the 999 Gimmighoul Coins. Once done, your Gimmighoul will become a Gholdengo, a steel/ghost type Pokemon, and the 999 Ghimighoul Coins will be consumed.
