Overwatch 2 is already renowned for having one of the most inclusive hero rosters in gaming, and that includes several characters that represent various parts of the LGBTQ+ community.
While the iconic free-to-play shooter has certainly had its rocky moments, the game has long championed the diversity of its heroes, with voice actors also hailing from their respective cultural backgrounds and gender identities.
Which Overwatch 2 characters are LGBTQ+?
The following Overwatch 2 heroes have been confirmed to be part of the LGBTQ+ by the developers:
Of these characters, Baptiste, Pharah, Soldier: 76, and Tracer had their queer identity shared post-release, while Venture and Lifeweaver had theirs established upon entering the game.
All LGBTQ+ Overwatch 2 characters explained
Baptiste
Baptiste is bisexual and this was confirmed in 2023’s Pride celebrations, when the Midtown map was decorated in the aftermath of a Pride parade. In the name cards players can set to show their pride, Baptiste’s silhouette makes up part of the bisexual name card, while other characters like Lifeweaver and Tracer appear with the colours of their respective identities.
Lifeweaver
Lifeweaver is pansexual and has openly expressed this in his voice lines, particularly when there is a Baptiste on the team. Lifeweaver was the first character to enter the game as already part of the LGBTQ+ community. While the voice lines continue to hint that he would like to take Baptiste on a date, could we see more of their potential romance bloom?
Pharah
Pharah was established as a lesbian in the 'As You Are' short story. Several characters have had their identities explored in expanded comics and stories. Pharah’s was revealed during a conversation with Baptiste, who earlier that year had been revealed as bisexual.
Soldier: 76
Soldier: 76 is a gay man and, in the 'Bastet' short story, was confirmed to have had a partner called Vincent. However, this is something of a touchy subject for Jack, who laments that Vincent is now happily married. Despite his optimism for Vincent’s future without him, it’s clear he still holds a candle for him.
Tracer
Tracer was the first LGBTQ+ hero in the early days of the original Overwatch, and she is a lesbian. This was confirmed way back in 2016 in the 'Reflections' comic, which revealed Tracer has a girlfriend called Emily. In the 2023 Pride celebrations, a spray called Lena and Emily was added for her to use, showing the characters posing together in a Polaroid photo.
Venture
Venture is the latest hero added to the Overwatch 2 hero pool and was established early on as the game’s first non-binary hero, using they/them pronouns. Venture is voiced by Valeria Rodriguez, who is also non-binary.
