Marvel Rivals is the next hero shooter to enter the arena, and with it comes a chance for some to play competitively as iconic Marvel heroes and villains. See how Competitive works below, along with the ranks at which you can earn the rewards on offer.

What is ranked?

Competitive mode in Marvel Rivals

Officially titled 'Competitive' in-game, ranked is a game mode where players are assigned ranks based on their ability, so you can play with and compete against players of a similar skill level.

As you play, your rank can change based on your performances, allowing you to climb or even fall down the skill ladder.

Your rank is based on Rank Points (RP) with wins giving you points and losses taking them away.

Currently, when you begin playing you'll start in Bronze I with everyone else, but a placement system will likely be added down the line, meaning you could potentially start higher if you play well.

Ranked mode is also defined by seasons. This means after a set amount of time, everyone's ranks for that season will be frozen (and likely marked on your profile to see where your final place was) and then reset for the next season, meaning you'll need to begin the climb again.

How to unlock ranked

In the current beta, the Competitive mode is unlocked at level five, so players can get some experience with the game before jumping in. This may change with the full release.

All ranks

Ranks in Marvel Rivals

There are eight ranks to work through, with six of them featuring three separate divisions. Here are all the ranks in ascending order:

  • Bronze (I-III)
  • Silver (I-III)
  • Gold (I-III)
  • Diamond (I-III)
  • Grandmaster (I-III)
  • Eternity
  • One Above All

Each of the divisions requires you to earn 100 RP before you can reach the next one.

Once you arrive at the top two ranks, the ladder ranking is based purely on the amount of RP you have. So if you don't play consistently, you'll slowly lose your place.

All ranked rewards

Players who reach the Gold rank during the beta test will unlock the Tooth and Hammer spray.

Most modern multiplayer games with a ranked mode offer unique rewards for each rank at the end of a season, so the higher you climb, the more you can earn.

We'll have to see if Marvel Rivals follows this same formula, but I'd say it's highly likely.
