Finally, Fortnite Festival is playable with instrument controllers. This long-requested feature is a natural evolution of Fortnite Festival, allowing participants to get more immersed in the experience than ever before.

So, let's get into how to play Fortnite's built-in rhythm game with instrument controllers and which instrument controllers you can use on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Playing Fortnite Festival with instrument controllers

To use instrument controllers, first, you'll need to enter the Main Stage. If you have a supported guitar controller plugged in and it's functioning properly, you should notice the option to select Pro Lead and Pro Bass

Playing Pro Lead in Fortnite Festival

Pro Lead and Pro Bass are designed exclusively for guitar controllers, and with that, they play differently than Fortnite Festival's original song parts in a way reminiscent of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

The Pro Lead and Pro Bass song parts feature hammer-on and pull-off notes. When you're on a streak, you can hit these notes without strumming the guitar! Furthermore, each lane has coloured notes corresponding to the guitar controller's buttons. Unfortunately, the whammy bar effect is purely visual, at least for the time being.

Expect continued improvements to instrument compatibility, as well as additional instruments! Epic Games promises they'll continue to expand on instrument compatibility in Fortnite Festival, starting with custom keybind and support for additional guitar controllers on PC.

Supported instrument controllers on PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5

You can play Fortnite Festival on PS4 and PS5 with the following instrument controllers:

  • RIFFMASTER Wireless Guitar Controller for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
  • RockBand 4 Rivals Wireless Fender™ Jaguar Guitar for PlayStation 4
  • RockBand 4 Wireless Fender™ Stratocaster™ Guitar for PlayStation 4

Supported instrument controllers on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One & PC

Fortnite Festival on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC supports the following instrument controllers:

  • RIFFMASTER Wireless Guitar Controller for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC

  • RockBand 4 Rivals Wireless Fender™ Jaguar Guitar for Xbox One
    • (Requires the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 to use on PC)
  • RockBand 4 Wireless Fender™ Stratocaster™ Guitar for Xbox One
    • (Requires the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 to use on PC)

If you're like me and come from humble beginnings in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, it's time to dust off that old guitar controller and take the Main Stage! Fortnite Festival offers fresh leaderboards for Pro Lead and Pro Bass, too, so you can find out where you rank amongst guitar controller users.

We're limited to guitar controllers for now, but if you're able to whip out a drum set and a mic in the future, this page will be updated with all you need to know.

A new season of Fortnite Festival means a brand-new Festival Pass and Wristband Rewards! Stay tuned to our Fortnite homepage at GGRecon for more Fortnite content.
