In Honkai: Star Rail, the Rarely Affectionate quests are essential Companion Missions you will need to complete to get Clara onside. But doing so can be pretty tricky, especially since they are some of the longer quests you'll be embarking on.

Here, we'll be breaking down how to complete both of the Rarely Affectionate quests, your rewards for doing so and some of the choices you'll need to make along the way that will impact later quests in the game.

How to complete Rarely Affectionate Part 1 in Honkai: Star Rail

First things first, you’ll need to await Clara’s message to start Rarely Affectionate. Clara is an orphaned girl who is never too far away from her robot companion, Svarog. She is over on Jarilo-VI, so make your way to the Robot Settlement there to start the mission.

Someone has been stealing essential parts for the robots. She needs your help to find the culprit. For the most part, you’ll be guided by Clara to various quest markers along the map.

First, you’ll need to question the witness to the crime. He’s not too far over in the Vagrant Camp. Follow the quest marker clues until you come to a tiny robot shivering behind the rocks.

This Gear-Stealing Robot is a nervous wreck, but you’ll have to fight it to stop it from escaping. Once defeated, Clara resolves to repair it. Make your way back to Svarog for his wary advice.

After discussing the matter with Svarog, you’ll need to find a robot named Toby by the gates to the Robot Settlement.

From there, you simply need to follow him along to the Machine Graveyard. There’ll be a few fights along the way, but once they are finished, you’ll find a new robot shell.

With this completed, make your way back to Clara and Svarog to finish the mission.

How to complete Rarely Affectionate Part 2 in Honkai: Star Rail

For the next part of Rarely Affectionate in Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll receive a new message from Clara to meet with her again and start the mission as before. This time, we’ve got a name for the robot… Pascal (a veiled Nier: Automata reference, perhaps?).

You’ll be continuing from where you left off and salvaging the Suitable Shell you’ll need to repair Pascal from the Machine Graveyard.

Once there, you’ll need to fight an Automaton Direwolf. Once the battle is over, you’ll obtain the shell and you can head back to Pascal.

With his shiny new shell, Pascal initially seems fine… until he ends up running away. You’ll need to make your way to Rivet Town and follow the clues to find Pascal. You’ll need to save him from a Grizzly Robot attack!

After the battle, you can explore the Tempering Workshop, where you’ll find out a lot more about Pascal’s situation from reading his diary.

You’ll need to guide Pascal back to the Robot Settlement where you’ll be faced with a difficult set of choices:

Choice Consequence
Follow Svarog’s idea

Formatting Pascal and he will survive, but his emotional intelligence will be wiped.

Don’t follow Svarog’s idea Pascal will keep his emotional intelligence, but may not survive.

It seems this quest is referencing Nier: Automata in more than character names alone. You’ll learn of the consequences of your choice in the final part of Clara’s companion quest.

That’s everything you need to complete the Rarely Affectionate quests in Honkai: Star Rail. Need more adventures to embark on? We’ve also broken down the Fired quest and how you can complete it.
