Forza Motorsport crossplay, cross-save, & cross-progression support explained
Forza Motorsport would thrive on an ecosystem that supports everything from crossplay to cross-save and cross-progression. Find out if that's the case.
Crossplay is a coveted feature in most modern video games, and Forza Motorsport is certainly a title that would benefit from such a feature.
With Forza Motorsport releasing on the Xbox eco-system, it's almost expected that the game will have features like crossplay, cross-save, and cross-progression. However, we can't take these things for granted, as even some Xbox games don't always support the full array of features.
That said, the previous Forza game in the series, Forza Horizon 5, was capable of all three cross-platform features. So, find out below if Forza Motorsport continues the trend of supporting crossplay, cross-save, and cross-progression.
- Get ready. Forza Motorsport is going to take up a lot of storage space
Does Forza Motorsport have crossplay?
Xbox and developer Turn 10 Studios have confirmed there will be Forza Motorsport crossplay when the game launches on October 10.
"With cross-play for online matchmaking and cross-save, you can play with your friends across PC and console and for the first time, continue your racing journey across Xbox Series X|S and Steam with shared progression and achievement unlocks," said the game's creative director Chris Esaki on Xbox Wire.
- There are many tracks that are available at launch for Forza Motorsport.
Is there Forza Motorsport cross-save support?
There will be full Forza Motorsport cross-save support in the game. This is a nice surprise, as Forza Horizon 5 did not support cross-save functionality between the Steam version and Xbox systems. However, that's been fixed for Forza Motorsport.
Regardless, Forza Motorsport crossplay is a huge get for fans of this racing franchise. It will be the first time the simulation side of this series will support the feature.
- It would be neat if Forza Motorsport has split-screen co-op.
Forza Motorsport cross-progression explained
Forza Motorsport will support cross-progression between the PC and Xbox versions, no matter whether you're playing the game on Steam, Xbox, or the Xbox Play Anywhere version on PC. This is confirmed in the FAQ section on the Forza Motorsport websites, which explains that all saved data is stored in the Cloud servers.
This means that your lap times, unlocked cars, and all career progression will be retained on every single platform you play Forza Motorsport on. Any progress you make on Xbox can be picked up on the Steam version, as long as you log into the same Xbox account on each version.
Playing on PC certainly sounds like the way to play, if you have the specs to back it up, that is. You'll be able to see all the stunning cars with all of their vibrant details, and you can share them with your friends over Forza Motorsport crossplay.
