Knowing where the next storm circle is going to be can mean life or death in Fortnite, and predicting where to go next is exactly what the new Forecast Towers are for.
However, they can be quite elusive if you struggle to make it far enough into the game for one to spawn. Here’s exactly how you can make the most of Forecast Towers, and whether you should bother going to one.
Where to find Forecast Towers in Fortnite
Forecast Towers look like massive energy pylons on the map and usually spawn high up on hills. They’re denoted on the map by the small icon, as shown in the image below.
However, these towers don’t become active until several minutes into a match. I estimate that they appear roughly when the second circle starts to move in, so you’ll need to stay alive long enough for them to activate.
That said, you can find a Forecast Tower before it becomes active by simply looking out for them while travelling about. I managed to find one early on in the game, even though I couldn’t use it. All you need to do is hang around for a bit, and the required NPCs will eventually spawn.
How to use Forecast Towers
You’ll need NPCs to spawn to use Forecast Towers as they carry the necessary key card that activates it. There are usually three enemies that patrol the area near the tower, with one lead guard and two supporting mercenaries.
Take these enemies out and they’ll drop a keycard for the Forecast Tower. They’re not too tricky at all, so you shouldn’t have any bother with them. I’m rubbish at Fortnite and they didn’t even manage to damage my shields when I attempted this.
Once you have the keycard in hand, head inside the hut at the base of the tower and interact with the big screen. You’ll see the next couple of storm circles appear on your map, so you can head there right away instead of getting caught out!
Should you use Forecast Towers?
Ultimately, there’s no harm in using Forecast Towers as they don’t give away your position on the map. The only real risk you’ll run into is if other players have the same ideas as you and you need to contend with them for possession of the key card.
However, I used two Forecast Towers in separate matches and never encountered an enemy once, so they don’t seem to be major hot spots right now.
The information that they provide can be useful, especially if you’re a player who likes to play stealthily and avoid combat until the very end of a match. In this case, it’s worth seeking them out so you can find an endgame spot early.
