Torgal is far from the first pooch to appear in a Final Fantasy game, but he plays perhaps a bigger role than any that came before him. His transformation from a baby pup in the game's opening hours to a wolf-like beast in Clive's later years is quite remarkable, but his strength doesn't make him any less deserving of love and attention.

So, find out if you can pet the dog and how to interact with Torgal in Final Fantasy 16 below, as we've got all of the details you'll ever need.

SPOILER WARNING: This guide may contain story spoilers, so be sure to proceed at your own risk to ensure details in the game remain a surprise.

How to pet the dog

All you need to do to pet Torgal in Final Fantasy 16 is hold X when the heart prompt appears above his head. This does seem to not show up at all times, and you must ensure that both Clive and Torgal are still for the option to appear.

Once you complete the action, a short cutscene will play showing you petting the dog, and there are a few different animations for this action to keep things fresh.

Theoretically, you could just stop at any point during your travels to give Torgal some well-earned affection, but you might be a bit preoccupied with the various enemies and discoveries to do so sometimes.

Can you pet other animals in Final Fantasy 16?

Unfortunately, you are unable to pet other animals in Final Fantasy 16, with Torgal being the only pet that you're able to interact with. This extends to Chocobos that you find out in the wild, and your own personal Chocobo mount once you are able to obtain one.

This does, of course, allow you to send all your love to Torgal though, and he certainly deserves it after all of the fighting he does by your side. Make sure to stop at any point during your travels to let him know that he is appreciated.
