How to get & use ability points in Final Fantasy 16
If you're confused about ability points in Final Fantasy 16 at all, then make sure to read this guide as you can find out how to get and use them in the game.
Ability points in Final Fantasy 16 are key to increasing your combat skills, so knowing how to get them (and where to use them) is vital to your success in-game. As Final Fantasy 16 has moved to a more action-focused combat system, there is now an abundance of moves that you can learn and enhance in the game.
However, each one requires you to have enough ability points, and you might find yourself a bit low on your travels throughout Valisthea.
How to get ability points
Ability points in Final Fantasy 16 can be earned through the following three means:
- Defeating enemies
- Defeating bosses
- Completing quests
These are things that you will repeatedly do throughout your journey throughout Valisthea, but they will give you different amounts of ability points, and from a certain point in the game new opportunities will open up to you.
By far the best way to get ability points is by completing bosses, as they will give you a big chunk that will quickly let you upgrade more of your skills in the game. However, these do not appear as regularly as some other venues - and you don't have control over when they appear.
One thing to watch out for with quests is that not all quests will give you ability points for completing them. You will be able to see the quest rewards at the point where you accept it though, so prioritise your time according to how much it offers.
Hunts are a great way to bulk up your ability points depository, as they give you a fair chunk when you defeat each notorious mark, and you can pick and choose when to tackle each one..
How to use and spend ability points
You can use ability points in Final Fantasy 16 by opening up the menu and heading to the Abilities tab. Within this tab, you should see a skill tree of sorts that lays out all of the abilities available to Clive at the current stage in the game.
Under each ability you'll find a number - this indicates how many ability points you will need to spend to acquire, upgrade, or master the skill. Abilities are usually fairly cheap to pick up, but can get quite expensive if you want to get everything it has to offer.
What is ability mastery in Final Fantasy 16?
Ability mastery in Final Fantasy 16 gives special properties to each skill after it has been acquired. Mastering some abilities will add extra attacks or increase damage, whereas others will allow you to use the ability within any Eikon's set.
In order to see what each skill's mastery will give you, all you need to do is press triangle when hovering over the skill, and that should open up an information window detailing the full progression path.
