If you're raring to go for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you'll need to give the day one patch notes a scan to see what's new in Version 1.010 of the game. The biggest addition in this update is a fix for a game-breaking bug that prevented early players from progressing past a certain point.

Bug fixes and stability improvements are common in most initial patches for the launch of a big release, but there are some tweaks you'll definitely want to install before you start playing the Final Fantasy 7 Remake sequel.

FF7 Rebirth update 1.010 patch notes

The patch notes for the first Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth update are as follows, confirmed on the Japanese Square Enix website's news post:

  • Fixed some text
  • Fixed a bug where the game could rarely progress under certain conditions
  • Fixed bugs in battles that occur under certain conditions
  • Corrected the effects of some items to be correct
  • Correspondence that allows you to obtain the benefit of owning trial version save data
  • Added a function that allows you to repair Chocobos stops while riding a Chocobo
  • Improved image quality when "Performance" is selected in the screen mode of the graphics settings.
  • Improved operability and quality in HUD/graphics/frame rate
  • Removes restrictions on the shooting function at the end of the game
  • Improves the overall stability of the game

Boosting image quality in FF7 Rebirth's performance mode, added stability, bug fixes, and quality of life improvements like being able to repair Chocobo stops as you're riding your mount are great to see.

However, the biggest relief comes from a bug fix that would stop players from progressing "under certain conditions".

There's no mention as to what these conditions were which would hard-lock progression, but I'm certainly glad the problem's been fixed either way. I definitely wouldn't have been able to keep playing without feeling a bit of anxiety throughout.
