The Escape From Tarkov Awl item is one of the latest pieces of loot introduced with the recent patch 12.12.30, and it is proving rather elusive for many players in the early game. If you have any plans of upgrading your Hideout or progressing through some quests in Escape From Tarkov, then finding specific items is going to be a headache at some point. So, if you're looking for all the information on how to find the Escape From Tarkov Awl, alongside its uses, then make sure to carry on reading below.

Escape From Tarkov Awl Uses

Escape From Tarkov Awl Uses

The Escape From Tarkov Awl has a number of different uses, from barters, to crafts, to even Escape From Tarkov Hideout items. It is described as being 'necessary for making clothes', so it is significant in a lot of armour and rig crafts. It is also unfortunately not an auxiliary crafting item, so it does get consumed every time you use it - unlike items like the Sewing kit or Metal cutting scissors.

However, the main use (that will cause a lot of issue for players early on in the Escape From Tarkov wipe) is for the construction of the Lavatory level one in the Hideout. You do only need one to complete it, but finding that single Awl has proven to be a major roadblock for many players.

Alongside the construction of the Lavatory level one, the Escape From Tarkov Awl can be used in the following barters and crafts:

  • Barters:
    • Soap (Ragman LL1)
    • NPP KIASS “Bagariy” armoured rig (Ragman LL3)
  • Crafts:
    • BNTI “Kirasa-N” body armour (Lavatory level one)
    • Splav “Tarzan M22” chest rig (Lavatory level two)
    • 6B5-16 Zh-86 “Uley” armoured rig (Lavatory level two)
    • 6B5-15 Zh-86 “Uley” armoured rig (Lavatory level two)
    • WARTECH TV-110 plate carrier rig (Lavatory level three)
    • ANA Tactical M1 armoured rig (Lavatory level three)
    • Body armour repair kit (Lavatory level three)

While there are obviously other items you need to collect for most of these barters and crafts, the Awl can be the one thing that causes you a lot of issues if you don't know where to find it. You could always pick it up from the Escape From Tarkov flea market, but any way to save your hard-earned Roubles is welcome in Tarkov.

Where To Find The Escape From Tarkov Awl

Where To Find The Escape From Tarkov Awl

There are four main loot locations that you are most likely to find the Escape From Tarkov Awl, and they are:

  • Toolboxes
  • Sports bags
  • Stashes
  • Loose on shelves and tables

The obvious problem with these locations is that it does not narrow your search down at all. If you have been looking for the Escape From Tarkov Awls then it is likely that you're checking these spots anyway, but it is still good to know you're looking in the right place.

Fortunately, however, there do seem to be some relative hotspots that some players are reportedly finding Awls at a higher rate.

If you follow our scav route on the Escape From Tarkov Interchange map, you have a fairly high chance of getting your hands on an Awl, as you will be looting a lot of toolboxes, and also pass by a lot of shelves. Some players in particular are reporting that the shelves at the back of Interchange have a high spawn rate, so it is always worth checking those as you pass by. This makes sense as those shelves tend to spawn crafting tools like screwdrivers and sewing kits, so the Awls should spawn there too.

Where To Find The Escape From Tarkov Awl Green House

Additionally, another great place to look is on the Escape From Tarkov Woods map, particularly around the Scav Village in the green coloured house. Once again you'll be looking on shelves and tables, hoping that you will see the wooden handled tool.
