Some of the quests in Dragon's Dogma 2 aren't exactly player friendly, with them giving you an objective and trusting you to figure out exactly how to proceed - and Saint of the Slums is one of the biggest examples of this early in the game

The quest tasks you with various objectives that will take you in and out of the confines of Vernworth, but getting a satisfactory resolution in the end requires you to go above and beyond. Here's everything you need to know at each step of Saint of the Slums.

How to start Saint of the Slums

Starting Saint of the Slums requires you to visit the Gracious Hand (marked below), a building located in the slums on the east side of Vernworth. In front of the building, you should find a character Vlasiy complaining about his son's health to the abbess called Elena.

I'm unsure on the exact criteria you need to meet to trigger this, as some players report encountering this the first time they pass the Gracious Hand, whereas it took me multiple visits for the cutscene to start.

Regardless of when it occurs, speak to Elena afterward to begin the quest. Your first goal will be to locate three Miasmite, but where do you find it?

How to find Miasmite

Phantoms in Dragon's Dogma 2

You can find Miasmite as loot after killing Phantoms. These are an enemy type that exclusively spawns at night, meaning you'll need to do some nocturnal exploration.

I found several good Phantom spawn locations in the forests north of Vernworth, which allowed to me grab the three Miasmite I needed straight away.

If you don't want to have to farm the resource at night, you can also buy some from vendors for 300 Gold a piece. Just look for the potion icon on the map, or one of the travelling vendors and they may sell some.

Once you find all Miasmite you need, take it back to Elena, and she will invite you on a brief tour of the premises.

Fast-forward a bit and you'll be introduced to a patient called Lubomir, who will ask you to investigate the place due to feeling that something is off.

Investigating the Gracious Hand

Your first task in your investigation will be to speak to one of the nurses called Lottie. She can always be found just outside the main entrance, and in my playthrough she spoke to me first, meaning I didn't even have to seek her out to progress this section.

Go back to Lubomir after this, and he'll ask for you to investigate the basement of the Gracious Hand. You can back out at this point for whatever reason, but you need to agree to help him for the quest to continue.

You'll find that if you head into the basement area, there are two doors on either side of the corridor. The one on the right side leads into the office of the abbess, and it features a locked door that leads toward the area you need to investigate.

Speaking to Lubomir will give you a hint about how to progress here, as Elena always leaves the building at night, giving you a window to explore the basement.

I recommend waiting outside the building and watching her leave as, if you go into her office too early, she can turn around and come back to catch you.

Once you're through the door, head through the room with the beds into another office. Here, you can an item called Unlabeled Medicine on a shelf, and then an item called Records of Treatment on the bookcase.

Picking both these up will progress the quest some more and give you a new objective to look for two previous patients called Bruno and Jehan. They can be found in Walter's Tavern, which is located nearby in the slums.

After talking to Bruno specifically, he will cast some doubts on Elena and mention how he saw her meeting with a suspicious individual in the Common Quarter at night once. This will add another objective, tasking you with listening in on the next meeting.

Elena's meeting place in the square during Saint of the Slums in Dragon's Dogma 2

You can find Elena meeting the contact in the square in the Common Quarter (marked above) every night. However, you need to be careful here, as it's possible to be spotted causing her to flee, which will fail the quest.

For this section, I recommend letting her get all the way to the square first with her contact. Once you can see both of them standing next to each other, slowly approach from the south until a cutscene triggers

You'll learn more about Elena's motives here and her dealings with a shady character called Lord Phaesus. Once the conversation is over, go back to Lubomir with all the evidence you've collected and give him the Unlabeled Medicine.

Radcliff in Dragon's Dogma 2

He will recommend you get it tested by seeking out a doctor called Radcliff in the Checkpoint Rest Town to the west. I recommend taking the oxcart here to quicken the process and once you arrive, give Radcliff the medicine and wait half a day for him to analyse it.

Once you get it back, you'll learn that it's basically pure poison and has addictive properties. This is the final piece of evidence you need to conclude your investigation and arrest Elena.

Arresting Elena

After completing all of the above, it's time to apprehend Elena and complete the quest. You'll still find her around the Gracious Hand, so just locate her and press the grab button (right trigger on controller) to tackle her.

Once you've pinned her down, a few hours will pass and you'll be teleported outside the Vernworth Gaol Tower to hear the result of your investigation. There are two different outcomes here depending on the evidence you managed to acquire:

  1. If you didn't get Radcliff to analyse the medicine but collected the items, there won't be enough evidence to convict Elena and you'll finish the quest with no rewards
  2. If you got all the evidence (included Radcliff's testimony on the medicine) you'll have enough evidence to convict Elena, causing you to finish the quest and get 11,000 Gold and 1600 XP as a reward
