How to unlock Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2
Take a look at our coverage of how to unlock Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2, so you can begin using one of the special classes instead of the starter classes.
Mystic Spearhand is the Vocation that caught my eye in the Dragon's Dogma 2 trailers, and now the game is here, I can tell you exactly what it takes to unlock the class and begin using it.
Dragon's Dogma 2 has a very open-ended class system, allowing you to change your Vocation whenever and try a completely new playstyle. If you favour the idea of double-sided blades, acrobatic moves, and powerful magic, here's how to unlock the Mystic Spearhand as quickly as possible.
How to unlock Mystic Spearhand
Unlocking the Mystic Spearhand Vocation just requires you to speak to a character called Sigurd and select the dialogue option, "Ask about his manner of fighting."
The class will then be available for you to switch to immediately.
Where to find Sigurd
Sigurd can be found in two main locations (marked below) when playing: Melve and Harve Village - but he appears at these places in a particular order, and only after you meet some specific criteria.
Firstly, you'll need to follow the game's main story for a few hours until you arrive in the city of Vernworth. While here, you'll eventually meet a character called Brant as part of the Seat of the Sovran quest. He will then give you a quest called Monster Culling.
Getting this quest is the trigger that lets you now try to seek out Sigurd and the Mystic Spearhand Vocation. This means you'll want to head back to Melve. I recommend using the Oxcart in the north of the city for 100 Gold to get there much quicker.
Once you arrive back at Melve, the quest Readvent of Calamity should trigger while a dragon is attacking the town. Fight alongside these NPCs until the dragon is driven away.
Now if you look around, you should see a character with a black hood and good double-sided spear on his back called Sigurd. I found him near the well in the middle of the destroyed buildings. Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue to unlock the Vocation.
If by chance you've already revisited Melve and fought the dragon, but didn't speak to Sigurd, you have a second chance to find him at Harve Village in the west of Vermund. The Monster Culling quest I mentioned earlier will also direct you here for one of the objectives.
After coming to the area, I found Sigurd in the Coastal Hut on the eastern side of the village. Some players report having to begin the Scaly Invaders quest (you'll gain this by following Monster Culling) before he shows up here, but I found him before I began this.
How to change Vocation
No matter where you speak to Sigurd, you'll need to change to the Mystic Spearhand Vocation at a Guild Hall or Inn to begin using the class and its abilities. It can be unlocked for 150 Dcp.
Because I spoke to Sigurd in Melve, I just visited the town's Inn to change Vocation immediately after unlocking it.
