There are plenty of stats you can keep track of in Diablo 4, but there are four core stats that are arguably the most important throughout the game.

These core stats are increased each time you level up, can be affected by events you complete in the game, and are altered by the equipment you wear. Especially when the difficulty starts to ramp up in the endgame, it’s always important to know and understand how your core stats are affecting your character.

What are the core stats in Diablo 4?

As mentioned, there are four core stats in the game. These are:

  • Strength
  • Intelligence
  • Willpower
  • Dexterity

You can view these stats in the Character menu of Diablo 4, which is accessed by pressing the ‘C’ key, or navigating to it from the pause menu.

What do the core stats mean?

Each of the core stats dictates a specific aspect of how your character performs in Diablo 4:

Strength

The Strength stat provides an additional Armor rating as it levels up.

Intelligence

The Intelligence stat increases the amount of Skill Damage done to enemies, as well as the amount of Resistance to Elemental Damage.

Willpower

Willpower affects three main factors in Diablo 4, including your Resource Generation, the amount of Healing Received, and the amount of Overpower Damage dealt.

Dexterity

Lastly, Dexterity increases your Critical Strike Chance and your Dodge Chance.

How to improve your core stats

There are several ways you can improve your core stats in Diablo 4, but the simplest way is to continue levelling up your character. Every time you level up, you add an additional point to your Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, and Dexterity.

The fastest way to level up your character is to complete quests, especially the Main Story if you haven’t yet finished it. Alternatively, taking part in certain world events can net you some serious XP.

You can also improve your core stats by completing the Altars of Lilith, which can provide a +2 bonus to any of the four stats.

Additionally, keep an eye out for equipment that adds additional bonuses to your core stats. You can see how much your items are affecting your Core Stats by hovering over them in the menu. With my Sorcerer build, my items contribute to my Intelligence stat the most, adding an extra 63 points on top of my basic level.

Starting core stats for each class

Each class starts with different core stats, which is worth considering when you’re first creating your character.

Class Strength Intelligence Willpower Dexterity
Barbarian 10 7 7 8
Druid 7 8 10 7
Rogue 7 7 8 10
Sorcerer 7 10 8 7
Necromancer 7 10 8 7
