Solstice 2024
Bungie’s loot-shooting MMO-style live service game, Destiny 2, continues to reinvent itself, with latest expansion Lightfall just around the corner.
That includes the game's initial trifecta of light-based subclasses: Void, Solar, and Arc, which all got sizeable changes across Year 5 to bring them in line with Stasis - Destiny 2's first Darkness-based subclass (and soon to be joined by Strand).
Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 is a reworking of the burning, restorative power that adds new mechanics and customization options including Aspects and Fragments.
Whichever class you're running, here's our guide to Solar 3.0, including Destiny 2 Solar Aspects and Fragments and how to get them.
What Is Solar 3.0 in Destiny 2?
Solar 3.0 updates all of the Hunter, Titan and Warlock Solar subclasses with new customization options and abilities.
It's still being iterated on, with new Fragments coming as part of Lightfall - as well as a new Strand type.
The other Destiny 2 damage types are:
- Arc (Light Blue) - The power of lightning
- Stasis (Dark Blue) - The power of cosmic ice
- Void (Purple) - The power of gravity and space
There’s also Kinetic damage, which isn’t imbued with any special properties.
How To Unlock Solar 3.0 Aspects & Fragments in Destiny 2
Solar is unlocked as part of the game's introductory quest, but if you're a returning player you'll have the 3.0 version unlocked when logging in.
After that, you can purchase Aspects, Fragments, and Solar abilities from Ikora Rey in The Tower's courtyard. They cost a fair amount of Glimmer, so be sure to head to the Cryptarch to restock on the currency to make sure you can buy everything.
Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 Keywords
Here are the key things to keep in mind when picking your Solar Aspects and Fragments:
- Cure: Health regeneration/healing.
- Ignite: A solar explosion damages opponents.
- Firesprite (New for Lightfall): Firesprites are created by a suite of new and existing Solar Fragments, and grant grenade energy on pickup.
- Radiant: Weapons deal more damage.
- Restoration: Continuously regenerating health and shields
- Scorch: Target takes damage over time which increases as more Scorch stacks accumulate. 100 Scorch stacks will trigger the Ignite keyword.
All Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 Aspects & Fragments
Solar 3.0 Aspects and Fragments let players tailor their Solar subclasses to their own playstyle - do you want to deal burning damage, or have the chance to heal yourself and your teammates?
Aspects are class-specific, so Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks all have their own to choose from.
Fragments, on the other hand, are universal. They can be slotted into any build, and some come with buffs or penalties to your core stats.
Here’s every Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 Aspect:
Hunter:
- Gunpowder Gamble: Defeat targets with abilities, Solar debuffs, or Solar weapons to charge up an improvised Solar explosive. Throw a solar explosive that can be shot in mid-air to cause an ignition.
- Knock 'Em Down: Solar Supers are enhanced. Golden Gun – Deadshot has increased duration, Golden Gun – Marksman has increased damage resistance and duration, and Blade Barrage launches more projectiles. While radiant, final blows with your equipped Throwing Knife fully refund your melee energy.
- On Your Mark: Precision final blows grant you and nearby allies increased weapon handling and reload speed for a short duration. Stacks 3 times. Activating your class ability immediately grants maximum stacks of On Your Mark.
Titan
- Consecration: Activate your charged melee ability while sliding to launch a wave of Solar energy forward, damaging and scorching targets in front of you as you leap into the air. While airborne, activate your charged melee again to slam to the ground and create a second larger wave of damaging Solar energy. If the wave hits a scorched target, they ignite.
- Roaring Flames: Final blows with Solar abilities or ignitions increase the damage of your Solar abilities. Stacks 3 times.
- Sol Invictus: Solar ability final blows, Hammer of Sol impacts, and defeating scorched targets creates Sunspots. Your abilities regenerate faster, and your Super drains more slowly while standing in a Sunspot. Sunspots apply scorch and deal damage to targets inside. Entering a Sunspot applies restoration.
Warlock
- Heat Rises: Warlocks can fire weapons, melee, and throw grenades while gliding. Consumes grenade. Final blows while airborne increase the duration of Heat Rises and grant melee energy.
- Icarus Dash: Dodge quickly while airborne. While Heat Rises is active, you have an additional dodge.
- Touch of Flame: Your Healing, Solar, Firebolt, and Fusion Grenades have enhanced functionality. Healing Grenade has improved cure and restoration, Solar Grenade increases linger duration and fires blobs of lava, Firebolt Grenade increases target search radius and count, and Fusion Grenade explodes twice.
Here’s every Destiny 2 Solar Fragment so far:
- Ember of Ashes: You apply more scorch stacks to targets.
- Ember of Beams: Your Solar Super projectiles have stronger target acquisition (+10 Intellect).
- Ember of Benevolence: Applying restoration, cure, or radiant to allies grants increased grenade, melee, and class ability regeneration for a short duration (-10 Discipline).

- Ember of Torches: Powered melee attacks against combatants make you and nearby allies radiant.
- Ember of Wonder: Rapidly defeating multiple targets with solar ignitions generates an Orb of Power (+10 Resilience).
