With every expansion released for Destiny 2, new characters are usually added to the game. Safiyah is the latest addition to this ever-growing Destiny 2 character list but she is definitely one of the more mysterious 'people' to grace the universe.
To help you get a bit more understanding, we will detail the answer to who is Safiyah, providing any lore, along with any additional information we've managed to dig up.
Who Is Safiyah?
You first meet her in the opening mission to Season of the Haunted and she's certainly not human in any shape or form. In fact, she's not named just 'Safiyah', her title is actually Nightmare of Safiyah, a creature created by the Pyramids to haunt those who have fear or regret.
While you'd usually want to dispatch a Nightmare of this ilk as fast as possible, Vanguard leader Zavala pleads with you to hold back and instead, see where Safiyah leads you. After this Season's story unravels, you learn that Safiyah, in human form, was Commander Zavala's wife until she sadly passed away. Zavala likely feels guilt and regret about how Safiyah died hence why she has now made an appearance in Nightmare form on the Derelict Leviathan.
Currently, the most detail you can get on this matter is through the lore text attached to a new Exotic Ship introduced in Season of the Haunted - Tymbal Lucidae. This text details Zavala dreaming of both his wife, Safiyah and son, Hakim.
Are you struggling to navigate the Leviathan? Find out where to find Pleasure Gardens in Destiny 2. There have been Solar subclass changes in Season of the Haunted as well, make sure to read our Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 guide for all the information.
If you weren't aware, Safiyah was also actually brought up in a past Destiny 2 expansion - Season of the Splicer, in a piece of flavour text. This passage is in the Forbidden Memory Exotic Ship description but if you haven't managed to acquire that for yourself, you can read the initial portion below.
That's all we have on Safiyah in Destiny 2 but as and when we get more information, potentially at the end of Season of the Haunted, we will detail all for you right here.
