Here's how you can change your name in Call of Duty
Stuck with a terrible username and now wondering how you can change your name in any Call of Duty game? Have a read of this guide for a full explanation.
There's nothing worse than condemning yourself to regret with a silly username, but thankfully in Call of Duty, you can change it.
If you need a quick rundown on how to change your name in any of the modern COD games, we've got you covered.
How do you change your name?
You are able to change your name both in your chosen COD game itself or through the official Activision website.
If you want to do it on the Activision website, here's what you need to do:
- Head over to the Activision website and sign in to your account
- Hit the Profile option in the top right
- Press on the Basic Info tab on the left
- Hit Edit next to your Activision ID at the bottom
- You might need a verification code from your email, but once you've entered that, type in your desired new display name
- Press Confirm and your display name will be changed
If you're wanting to change your name through your chosen COD game itself, then make sure to follow the step-by-step guide here:
- Head to the Settings menu by clicking on the Cog icon in the top left of the main screen
- Head to the Account & Network tab, and then hit the Activision Account option
- This will take you to the Activision Account Summary page, where you can press the Change Display Name button
- Enter your new desired display name in the text box, and then press confirm
- Restart your game for the change to take effect
As you can see, it is a really simple process, so you don't need to worry about any embarrassing past choices anymore when you're sitting at the top of the leaderboard.
How many times can you change your COD name?
Changing your name requires a Rename Token, which is earned automatically every six months or whenever you log in to a new COD game for the first time.
This means once Black Ops 6 rolls around at the end of 2024, players with no tokens will have another chance to change their name.
