Best early-game skills to unlock first in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Marvel fans trying to decide which are the best skills to unlock first in Spider-Man 2 can find them all here - helping you pick between the three skill trees.
Within the web-swinging sequel's opening hour, you'll likely start to wonder which are the best early-game skills to unlock in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 first. As you quickly unlock the Skill Tree feature, you'll soon realise not only is there the Shared Skilled Tree, but one each for Miles and Peter as well.
Even though some skills can't be unlocked until further in the story, the number of options to spend your newly earned Skill Points on already can be quite daunting.
So, let's get into the best skills in Spider-Man you should prioritise to unlock first in the game.
Best early-game skills to unlock first in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
The six best skills you should unlock first in Spider-Man 2 between the three Skill Trees are as follows in the table below:
Skill | Skill Tree | Effect |
Spider-Rush | Peter | Press L1 + Triangle button to propel yourself forward, damaging enemies along your path |
Venom Punch: Concentrated Force | Miles | Venom Punch exerts a force in a cone from the primary target, throwing back all enemies caught in it |
Combo Resupply | Shared | Adds chance for a free gadget shot at the end of a 4-hit melee Combo |
Web Whip | Shared | Hold Triangle button to attach a web to an enemy's weapon, then tap R1 to disarm and whip the weapon back with force. |
Venom Smash: Jolt | Miles | Tap L1 + Circle button a second time during a Venom Smash to launch enemies into the air |
Spider Rush: Tornado | Peter | Spider Rush pulls enemies in towards Spider-Man from farther out |
Each of these essential early SM2 skills, with two each from the Shared, Miles, and Peter Skill Trees, prioritise the available skills which will give you the biggest edge in combat based on the enemies you’ll face in the game’s early hours.
For example, Web Whip is in my opinion the skill you should unlock first - outside of those you need to get to open the rest of each Skill Tree of course. Firearm-wielding enemies can be some of the most annoying in the game from the get-go, forcing you to abruptly cancel the combo you were hitting an enemy with, dodge, and instead focus your attention on the guy holding the AK-47.
With a simple and quick disarm though, Web Whip helps make combat encounters with many enemies that much easier by removing one of the trigger-happy elements. The same goes for Combo Resupply - granting you an extra gadget to use on enemies, which is great for early in the game when they’ll be in short supply, as you’ll have not unlocked the other gadgets or any of their upgrades.
As for the best early Peter and Miles skills in Spider-Man 2, the most essential two for each emphasise ability skills or enhancements that will make each of the Spider-Men more deadly in combat. With Peter for instance, Spider-Rush is a powerful early-game ability that can take out multiple enemies like Hunters all at once, with Spider-Rush: Tornado enhancing its AOE (Area of Effect) to draw even more enemies in.
The same goes for Miles and Venom Punch: Concentrated Force - upgrading an already powerful move which affects only a simple enemy into its own AOE attack. Venom Smash: Jolt provides a similar enhancement for its namesake base move - lifting more enemies in the air to help better manage other foes on the ground.
Whilst you’re playing the first parts of the game and are more vulnerable without the unlockable upgrades you can get by completing side activities, these early Spider-Man 2 skills with make the opening combat encounters far more manageable.
That’s everything you need to know about the best early-game skills to unlock first in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
