The Mind Place and Writer’s Room are areas where Alan and Saga can collect their thoughts in the game and put their detective reasoning and writer’s experience into practice. No other characters are welcome there, not even Sam Lake’s Alex Casey.

So, read on to find out everything you can do in the Mind Place and Writer’s Room in Alan Wake 2 so you can make it through the mystery in one piece.

SPOILER WARNING: This guide may contain story spoilers, so be sure to proceed at your own risk to ensure details in the game remain a surprise.

Saga Anderson profiling in the Mind Place in Alan Wake 2

Mind Place is Saga Anderson’s private space. In it, she can create case walls that break down the clues she finds in the various mysteries found in the game that will eventually elaborate on the cultist conspiracy at play here.

Additionally, she can profile characters she has spoken to or come into contact with. For example, if you’re going to find Nightingale’s Heart, you’re going to have to use your profiling table to build up a case on Robert Nightingale.

Additionally, you can access several other features here, including:

  • Manuscript pages
  • Radio broadcasts
  • Television commercials
  • Weapon upgrades

Alan Wake staring at the Plot Board in his Writer's Room in Alan Wake 2. There is also a typewriter present on a desk.

The Writer’s Room is Alan Wake’s version of the Mind Place in Alan Wake 2. His sparse loft with a typewriter on the desk allows him to create Plot Points that can manipulate how he navigates The Dark Place after picking up select clues.

Additionally, like Saga, he can:

  • Upgrade weapons and abilities
  • Watch television
  • Listen to the radio

However, I can’t stress enough that neither the Mind Place nor the Writer’s Rooms are Pause Menus, so be aware of your surroundings before using either of them.

That’s everything you need to know about the Mind Place and Writer’s Room in Alan Wake 2. Once you’ve mastered these, you’ll be able to get to the bottom of any mystery the game has to offer – including getting the shotgun code in Alan Wake 2.
