For the first time in the Modern Warfare series, an official Zombies mode could be about to land. Those sneaky leakers believe that Sledgehammer Games is about to drop one of the biggest Call of Duty medleys yet.
Since its deployment in Call of Duty 4, Zombies have been strictly Treyarch, with the Black Ops franchise becoming renowned for their lust for severed limbs and reanimated corpses.
That was until Vanguard, when Treyarch added their game mode to supplement a severely-lacklustre Sledgehammer Games project. The trend has been set, and now, Zombies look set to appear in a Modern Warfare game for the first time in 2023.
Call of Duty 2023 set to have Zombies game modes
Of course, some sort of Zombies has been in Modern Warfare, given that the Halloween Warzone event put a spooky twist on Verdansk, but they weren't the proper round-based Zombies we've come to love.
However, after many Black Ops x Modern Warfare crossover Easter eggs, leakers reportedly have the scoop that Sledgehammer Games is creating a Modern Warfare 2 sequel and that they will deploy a Zombies mode.
Insider Gaming has now claimed that Call of Duty 2023 will feature Zombies at launch, although it may be similar to what Vanguard had originally, with suspected round-based game modes coming later.
Zombies are coming to Modern Warfare
The report from Insider Gaming reiterated the rumours that Sledgehammer Games are indeed making a sequel to Modern Warfare 2, although it's not clear whether this will be Modern Warfare 3 or a spin-off based on old-school MW2 content.
Either way, Activision has reiterated that Call of Duty 2023 is definitely on the way. The title will apparently be based in the Modern Warfare series, and this makes it the first time that Zombies will be added to the sub-franchise.
The next tile is set to launch in November 2023, but after less than a year of development, we'll have to wait and see what's coming and what's been cut. With some saying CoD 2023 will be the most expensive video game of all time, there's should be plenty of room and money to squeeze a few deados into the mix.
