Having been a very competitive game from the second it was released, the make or break of XDefiant was always going to be how Ranked worked. It's all as public lobbies serve as an SBMM-free training ground for players of all skills and abilities.

But just a matter of hours after the mode was released, the Ranked mode is already facing a lot of criticism. Players have labelled XDefiant's ranked as "a joke," and see claiming that it's "clearly rushed out." Now, developers have come out swinging with a large defence and promises of improvements.

XDefiant Ranked under fire for being 'rushed' out

Taking to Twitter, XDefiant players have called out the mode and are pointing out a lack of restrictions to cheesy weapons and abilities - much like how Call of Duty bans RPGs in the competitive modes.

"Honestly - XDefiant ranked is a joke," said FPS enthusiast Nick "ProReborn". He continued, "It's pubs with 4v4 and a ranked system. No restrictions. Clearly rushed out. Makes me wonder if they even talked to Aches about it."

He's calling out the XDefiant developer and former CoD world champion Patrick "Aches" Price, who has been in charge of all things competitive for Ubisoft's new game. To no surprise, Aches has now bit back, defending the mode and its raw approach.

XDefiant devs bite back at Ranked critics

Hot off the criticism, after just one day, Aches took to Twitter to bite back at the claims, continuing the transparent way that Ubisoft is dealing with all XDefiant feedback.

"We're a brand new game with a brand new audience and want to be as inclusive as possible to everyone in Ranked play without turning them off to the experience," he said.

Aches also doubled down on the Faction restriction feature that is on the way, which will help combat the spam of the Spiderbots in the competitive playlists.

"We have an ability limit restriction system so that only 1 player can have a specific ability selected, this isn't just some magic button that we can press and boom only 1 skill is for use! It's a brand new feature that was built from the ground up, and just wasn't fully ready for S1 launch."

Maybe the Faction restriction system not being "fully ready" does feed into the "rushed" claims. Still, Aches continued to say that Ranked will never be "perfect" - no title is ever a constant 10/10 - but "improvements" are in the works, and the new arcade shooter will be on an upward trajectory moving forward.
