It's unfortunate, but Xbox has boxed itself into a corner with the launch of Baldur's Gate 3. To understand this, you need to know one thing - there's a lot of sex in the game. It's to such a degree that it's the angle that some players take in playing the game, with many dedicating to a sex% speedrun category.
There's plenty for you to get up to outside of this, of course, but let's be real. If you give gamers an inch of physical contact, they'll take a mile.
While players have been getting busy, Microsoft's interpretation of recording these encounters has been a little skewed, leading to some hefty bans. Fans aren't happy. And now, Xbox has doubled down.
Xbox has confirmed it’ll ban players recording NSFW scenes in Baldur’s Gate 3
After a period of quiet bannings, Microsoft has finally come forward to reveal that, yes, if you record Baldur’s Gate 3's NSFW scenes, you'll be issued a ban.
The act of recording a moment in a game leads to an instant upload to Xbox's servers in many cases, and in doing so, players are accidentally uploading content that breaches its code of conduct. It's a difficult situation to navigate, but Xbox has provided an update for players. As you can imagine, they're not best pleased.
The announcement reveals that if bans are issued as a result of the upload, they can reverse the suspension "if action was taken in error," and Xbox Support signed off with a link to instructions for switching off auto-upload.
Fans react to Xbox's Baldur's Gate 3 bans
Fans have taken to the replies of the Xbox post to call the company out for allowing the game to go out on its platform if it wasn't happy with its contents being shared. They're not happy.
One simply said, "Xbox Support is a joke," while another fumed, "Nobody should be getting suspended. Instead, users who block M-rated games in their family settings should not see any clips from any M-rated games. Shouldn't be any more complicated than that."
Another disgruntled gamer added, "Creating more work for yourselves. Games have regional ratings; Use that to determine what accounts can see those clips based on age/parental controls/user settings and make auto-upload opt-in? Weird stance; You let the game on your system but don't you dare share footage of it."
Fans have made their stance clear, but any kind of change to the terms of service for Xbox's clip-sharing seems unlikely. If you want to relive your filthy escapades in Baldur's Gate 3, you're going to have to keep it to yourself.
