Well, that didn't last long, did it? It's out with the new and in with the newer, as fresh leaks claim Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2 will overhaul its maps and remove the fan-favourite Rebirth Island.

While it's no secret Warzone is in a bit of scrape right now thanks to recurring exploits and the usual complaints of hackers running rife. The upcoming Season 2 is supposed to breathe new life into the jungles of the Pacific-set maps, however, it could be even bigger than we first expected.

Is Rebirth Island Leaving Call Of Duty: Warzone?

Introduced as part of Call of Duty's Black Ops Cold War integration in 2020, Rebirth Island took us away from the bustling 100-player lobby and chucked just 40 of us into this Alcatraz-inspired prison map. Despite its flaws, Rebirth Island has a loyal following of fans and is loved for its Resurgence mode. All that could be about to change.

Now, noted leakers Tom Henderson and TheMW2Ghost claim the pint-sized locale is being swapped out for a new POI. All signs point toward Resurgence staying in-game, but it will move to a new map instead of Rebirth. Even then, it's unclear whether Rebirth will rotate with the new map.

In a January 27 stream, Henderson explained, "I was told new Rebirth, whatever that thing. Possibly a new themed version of that." Saying he can't say too much, Henderson teased that you'll arrive at the map in a plane. Elswhere, he hyped another Warzone overhaul and addition of a "Warsaw map" when Modern Warfare 2 launches later this year.

When it comes to timings, no one really seems sure. Warzone Season 2 was recently delayed to February 14, while the game's two-year anniversary is on March 10. These are both potential dates, while others claim Rebirth's removal will be saved until Season 2 Reloaded or even Warzone Season 3.

Will We Miss Rebirth Island?

When you look at games like Fortnite and famous locations like Tilted Towers, they're forever immortalised in the minds of the players. Rebirth Island always felt a little too separate from the main map to make an impact. While the writers have tried to keep it relevant, it's never really had the punch we assume Raven wanted it to.

Swapping out Rebirth will give us some new nooks and crannies to explore, but how long until we're bored of it too? It's sad that Rebirth Island is potentially being shown the door now. You only have to look at the hype surrounding its survival into Warzone's Vanguard revamp to see it still has a place. It would've made more sense to get rid of it before or wait for Modern Warfare 2's expected revamp later this year.

Does any of this really fix Warzone though? With even some of the industry's biggest names turning their back on the battle royale juggernaut, there are sure to be the usual complaints that the devs are focusing their efforts on creating new maps instead of fixing the old ones. Either way, our time behind bars at Rebirth Island could be coming to an end.
