Warzone 2 players slam 'terrible' M4 nerf

Warzone 2 players have slammed the M4 nerf in the July 24 patch as 'terrible,' claiming it was completely unnecessary and has ruined the classic AR.

The M4 is, without a doubt, one of the most beloved and iconic ARs in Warzone 2. The legendary gun has gained a reputation for being consistently strong since release.

Despite this, the M4 has never dominated the meta or been unbelievably OP, it's just always remained a solid option in the WZ2 arsenal. So, no one expected the weapon to be hit with a nerf in the July 24 patch, but that's exactly what happened.

Alongside the Cronen Squall, X13 Auto, and Basilisk, the M4 was also included in the changes. This has led to backlash from the Warzone 2 community, who don't understand why the devs chose to alter the balanced M4.

While nerfs to the deadly X13 Auto and Basilisk secondaries were expected and heavily requested from the community in the July 24 patch, no thought the M4 would be included.

Well, the update decreased the OG AR's upper and lower torso multiplier, directly affecting the gun's damage output.

As landing headshots at long range is difficult, this nerf makes the M4 a lot less effective from afar at laser-beaming opponents. Although still a viable AR in the meta, the community were not happy with the dev's decision.

Taking to the CODWarzone subreddit, Knight-112 posted a picture of a blank rectangle, claiming this is the "list of people who asked for an M4 nerf."

This post led to a community discussion, with one user slamming the devs for putting their "grubby hands on ARs that aren't even broken," and another arguing that "Raven does not know how to balance the game."

With the M4 being such a popular and beloved weapon, it's not surprising that the "terrible" multiplier nerf has been met with backlash. It'll be interesting to see if the devs respond to this criticism by increasing the M4's power in Season 5, or whether they stick to their decision and prevent it from rising up in the rankings once again.
