Vortex maps are taking over MW3, but there’s one glaring omission

Modern Warfare 3 is adding Vortex maps into Quick Play, but the fan-favourite design is the only one to miss out.

It seems Modern Warfare 3 continues to be one of the most well-supported Call of Duty games ever, as wave after wave of massive drops have been poured into the multiplayer title, which Warzone has previously eclipsed.

One of the more quirky perks of Sledgehammer Games' live-service approach has been Vortex, a game mode that has reskinned the remastered maps to be hauntingly beautiful and offered a post-apocalyptic game mode centred around the beloved Ray Gun.

And now, these reskinned dystopian designs are set to start infecting the rest of the game, as Vortex is spreading throughout multiplayer.

Vortex maps have been added to all MW3 playlists

Previously, the Vortex maps were exclusive to its game mode, despite some variations having been favoured over its original design.

Now, Satan's Quarry (Quarry), Sporeyard (Scrapyard), Tetanus (Rust), and Airborne (Terminal) are all being added to the main playlists for game modes such as Hardpoint, Domination, and Capture The Flag.

Sledgehammer Games has already rolled this out rather than waiting for Season 3 Reloaded, in which they will join (not replace) all over the bog-standard Modern Warfare 2 remakes as a map choice.

Skidgrow seemingly left out of Vortex overhaul

Rather controversially, the only Vortex map which has yet to appear in the Quick Play function is Skidgrow, the unanimous favourite from the group which players have already dubbed as better than its original Skidrow.

Following the omission, players have called on Skidgrow to get the same love or even completely replace the dark and dull original. One Redditor took to the platform to beg for Skidgrow, saying, "It has a very Last of Us vibe to it, making it seem more post-apocalyptic than the original one."

They added, "Sledgehammer, I'm begging you, please replace Skidrow with Skidgrow permanently. It looks WAY BETTER than the regular version."

Whether this might have just been an error, or whether it was a conscious decision to just leave it out, is yet to be known, but Sledgehammer Games might be forced to adhere to the shouts of the public once again, as Skidrow is in popular demand.
