For the last three years, the new Call of Duty annual release has had major impacts on the free-to-play battle royale that is Warzone. The CoDverse might be poised for a return in a big way, but don't expect those usual problems to go away.

Starting with Vanguard, this marked the controversial move away from Verdansk towards Caldera, while the back-to-back Modern Warfare games spurned on annual shifts to Al Mazrah and Urzikstan. However, Black Ops 6's Warzone future is reportedly being delayed, which is bad news for any Verdansk fans.

Verdansk's rumoured return is reportedly delayed until mid-2025

Black Ops 6 is rumoured to be bringing back Verdansk. Instead of creating a new 150-player map, Treyarch and the Warzone studios are apparently planning to reignite the OG fan base by bringing back the beloved map - just as Fortnite did with its original Chapter throwback.

Apparently not this year, though. Leaks are emerging that the rumoured Verdansk port - or any big BR map, for that matter - will not be coming in Season 1 of Black Ops 6 as per the trend of the last few years.

These same leaks say it's simply "not ready". Leaker "BobNetworkUK" revealed that the Verdansk return has been delayed until "mid-lifecycle" in Black Ops 6.

Urzikstan will fly the flag with multiple map changes and Ranked mode

Instead of Black Ops 6 giving us a new map (or a return to an old one in this case), it now looks like we'll have a sustained period on Urzikstan, which will see POI changes and more.

We've already seen some POI changes begin to creep into Urzikstan, with the bunkers being opened in Season 4 and S4 Reloaded, making some acidic alterations to the Popov Power Plant.

These changes could also see Ranked move over to Urzikstan for the first time, having previously been exclusive to Resurgence maps. "Urzikstan will receive gameplay updates/map updates and Ranked Play with Season 1 to compensate for this delay," BobNetworkUK said.

Fortnite's OG success has been a major motivation for the Verdansk throwback, and it might actually play into Black Ops 6's hand if this resurgence comes a few months after the game launches, keeping hype all year round.
