It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now. Sometimes, the originals are the best, and proving that in spades, Activision has seemingly confirmed Verdansk is coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone. The fictional hub of the fictional Kastovia may not be real, but Warzone made it feel that way.
Introduced as part of 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its Warzone expansion, Verdansk is up there with Terminal, Summit, and the various Nuketowns in terms of iconic Call of Duty maps. We had plenty of fun on the OG map, and while it was blown to kingdom come, it's back... with a vengeance.
When Is Verdansk Coming Back To Call Of Duty?
Speaking about all things Warzone during a LegionFarm live stream, Activision's Alex Summers promised Verdansk is coming back next year. Even though it's great news for us nostalgia hounds, Summers gave a cryptic caveat that it will only be on "certain platforms."
Summers said, "I don't want to give too much away, but that map will be coming back to certain platforms some time next year." Speculation is running rife on what this means, with sceptics already calling out the seemingly massive announcement and guessing these certain platforms might be a mobile release.
If Verdansk is only coming to the rumoured mobile version of Warzone, we can see the angry tweets already. Then again, it makes sense to capitalise on the success of the main game and lure people into an on-the-go version by bringing back Verdansk. Others have noted that platforms suggests multiple releases. Considering we were told Verdansk was never coming back, it'll be interesting to know what changed.
What's Going On With Call Of Duty: Warzone Right Now?
Warzone is currently in a state of flux, with those continued complaints about glitches and bugs galore. Since back in the days of the stim glitch, we've been plagued by problems. Many hoped that the destruction of Verdansk and then Verdansk '84 would cure this, but as we've seen, even the Warzone Pacific overhaul didn't iron out all the kinks.
Of course, we're asking what's left? Summers also made a brief mention of the mythical Warzone 2.0 and how it will have a huge "new" map. The team could keep a steady base of players in a "classic" Warzone if Verdansk is restored to its former glory. Either way, Activision has vowed to support Warzone and the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 for at least two years, so we're far from done just yet.
