Valve's record for developing successful games is pretty strong. Counter-Strike and Dota come with a reputation that doesn't need much introduction, while the likes of Half-Life and Portal are also notoriously good.

So, there are high hopes for their next game, Deadlock, which promises to be an encapsulating 6v6 hero shooter cut from the same cloth as Overwatch. Deadlock is already being slated as a usurper to Overwatch and even VALORANT, as those who have played it early have given glowing reviews.

Deadlock gets glowing seal of approval following Closed Beta

The Verge came under fire after it produced a preview report on Deadlock earlier this week which broke an "informal NDA" and revealed that the title was a mix of Overwatch, Team Fortress, and Titanfall. While we won't go into any more detail, other reports have praised Deadlock as a promising title.

Reputable journalist Rod "Slasher" Breslau has already professed himself as a "Deadlock god gamer," in jest, but has also opened up about his high expectations for the game without ruining what it entails.

"The vibes from the Deadlock beta are being described as incredible, just as good or better than Overwatch and Valorant during their test period," Slasher said on X (formerly Twitter). "With IceFrog+Valve at the helm I expect the game to be an instant hit."

Other NDA players vaguely agreed.  "I got an invite from a friend and jumped in without playing the tutorial, even getting my ass kicked I could easily see myself loving it," said one fan. Slasher has even claimed that Deadlock could be the "next big esport" and could follow in the footsteps of VALORANT.

"I really hesitate to tout any game as the next big esport since that never seems to go well but I can't see it not happening," he added.

Despite having launched a full behind-closed-doors Beta run, Deadlock hasn't officially been revealed. For whatever reason, Valve is still refusing to announce its shooter or even recognise its existence...for now.
