While it's definitely the way the world is heading, Unreal Engine 5 is still a relatively unexplored realm of possibilities. With Epic Games jumping on the bandwagon and Crystal Dynamics working on an Unreal Engine 5 Tomb Raider, expect more developers to adopt it as the norm.
As Unreal Engine 5 paves the way for what's next, the idea of an Unreal Engine 5 Grand Theft Auto should have rivals shaking in their boots. We've already shown you what The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would look like with a facelift, but that's nothing compared to an Unreal Engine 5 GTA: San Andreas overhaul.
What Does An Unreal Engine 5 GTA: San Andreas Look Like?
It's been 18 years since CJ first raced into our lives for San Andreas, and without being unkind, it really shows in terms of graphics. Over on YouTuber, TeaserPlay has shown off a concept trailer for an Unreal Engine 5 GTA: San Andreas remake. Using the work of modder Hossein Diba, it's a glossy affair that will have you throwing your money at the idea.
Before Grove Street Games' maligned GTA Trilogy, we showed off Hossein Diba's work for what a Vice City remake could look like. As we all know, the official release was far from the polished version we see here, with the GTA Trilogy being absolutely panned upon release.
Instead of just running things through an AI upscaler, this version of San Andreas features dynamic lighting and photorealistic scenes. Because Unreal Engine 5 is free to everyone, it means it's relatively accessible and had led to a number of fan projects like this San Andreas upgrade.
Will We Get An Unreal Engine 5 GTA: San Andreas?
Seeing how well the Expanded & Enhanced GTA V looks, we're not too far off being able to make the above a reality. Sadly, the fact we've only just seen a revamped San Andreas suggests a mythical Unreal Engine 5 port will remain just that... a pipe dream. If that wasn't enough, Take-Two is notoriously vicious against modding, so Hossein's build isn't part of a playable release.
TeaserPlay's YouTube is filled with other fanciful remakes like Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne, but until Take-Two moves forward with its own builds, we're left with fan trailers. Rockstar is presumably too busy working on GTA 6 to worry about remasters. We saw this when it handed over the GTA Trilogy to Grove Street Games. We know development is "well underway" on the new-gen title, and it's expected to come with some suitably new-gen graphics.
