Much has been made about the current Call of Duty map pools. The handful we saw in the Black Ops 6 Beta were all 'small', leaving players wondering whether size matters or if it’s just the motion in the ocean.
Others have taken aim at the combined philosophy of small maps and crazy movement being something out of Sonic the Hedgehog. Even in Modern Warfare 3 Season 6, fans have been complaining about the lack of original content in favour of five new variants of Shipment.
But, there appears to be a reason for MW3's Shipment-ified horror season, and it stems from reports that Black Ops 6 has dipped its hand in the trick-or-treat jar and pulled out the planned multiplayer maps for its own game.
Black Ops 6 reportedly stole planned Modern Warfare 3 maps
According to reports, and circulated by popular in-the-know site CharlieIntel, Black Ops 6 has stolen some Modern Warfare 3 maps that were planned to release in Season 6, as it looks to build out their own post-launch content.
"Treyarch reportedly has taken SHG’s maps for Black Ops 6 post-launch seasons," the tweet reads, inferring that this is why a Shipment overload has been deployed and just one Halloween map has been released. The report was corroborated by leaker "TheGhostOfHope" who added that it was "f**ked up".
Fans have quickly called out Treyarch for this. "Weird, you'd think after 4 years of work there would be an abundance of maps to choose from. Just further shows how incompetent big studios can actually be," one fan said.
A second added, "Sledgehammer did really well with MW3. They added so much content to it and tried giving the community what they wanted while being held back by Infinity Ward."
There might be some solace for Black Ops 6, as Sledgehammer's legacy will continue through. "Treyarch’s maps are ass. I would MUCH rather have SHG maps than any of the sh*t that Treyarch comes up with," a third comment read.
At least we know Black Ops 6 will be supported equally as well as Modern Warfare 3 (at least at the start), which had the best live-service model in CoD history. If Treyarch has been copying Sledehammer's homework, it's not a good look for anyone involved.
