The Steam Deck is something of a dark horse when it comes to the handheld world, perhaps being the most convenient device on the market designed for gaming on the go, but standing without the marketable whimsy of the Nintendo Switch.
Even so, those in the know are having the time of their lives with the console, using their years-long Steam backlogs to transform the device into a gaming champion that rivals even a player’s PC. And now, though its power compared to full rigs was tested, it looks like it’s about to get even tougher.
The Steam Deck just got a huge upgrade
Would you believe it, NVIDIA GeForce NOW could be a new secret weapon for Valve's handheld.
The Steam Deck has just received a massive upgrade courtesy of NVIDIA GeForce NOW which has welcomed the handheld computer into an upper echelon of power that players can get their hands on incredibly easily.
The gaming platform is coming to Steam Deck and is offering players the chance to use its library and ability to supercharge games on the console, as well as its beta installation offering players Google Chrome by default, too. It also comes with an update that allows players to navigate the browser with the gamepad, making it much easier for you to find games that NVIDIA offers on its digital platform.
General concerns that the Steam Deck could be about to lag behind far more powerful competitors stepping onto the market have been seeping into the minds of players gradually over its life cycle, but the addition of NVIDIA GeForce NOW has proved that all is not lost, as players are able to take the NVIDIA approach to processing games and putting it to work on the handheld console they already have.
It’s a compelling system that has been made possible by Steam’s willingness to welcome other Operating Systems onto the device. Companies are proving time and time again that opening up your system to more operating systems can help to future-proof devices - and if we’re lucky, more will follow a move like this.
