Now that the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe expansion passes have come to a close, fans are naturally looking to the future. It might be a little premature, but we'll allow it.

The Mario Kart series is no doubt a system seller, riding the top of the Nintendo Switch's sales numbers since it launched with the deluxe version of the Wii U game, and it's expected that whatever is in the pipe at Nintendo to follow it will do the same.

And it looks as though the company is giving it the resources it needs.

Reports claim Mario Kart's next game is expensive

Well-known Mario leaker Zippo has claimed that the next Mario Kart game, claimed to be titled Mario Kart X, will be perhaps one of the most expensive Mario Kart games that Nintendo has ever produced.

"This is apparently one of the most expensive games Nintendo has ever put into production," Zippo says on their blog. "The next 3D Mario title is said to be "absolutely dropping" and this apparently looks even better. The game's visual fidelity is said to be a very high priority for them, meaning the game is gonna look good, damn good."

This is pretty compelling given that details on the budgets of Nintendo games are hard to come by - so to know that this game is going to be a big deal is exciting in itself, even without seeing what the game will look like. It makes sense given the huge ongoing success of Mario Kart 8, and it's clear that Nintendo knows now that the series isn't just for picking up at parties.

Mario Kart X is apparently coming in 2025

According to Zippo, we thankfully won't have long to wait for the game, as it's supposedly slated for a launch in 2025. "Once again, next year, the focus will be on the launch of the system alongside that new 3D Mario," Zippo says. "Mario Kart will come in due time, friends."

It's also expected to bring a new 3D Mario game, and along with the expected new hardware from Nintendo, it could be a very big year for Mario indeed. We're ready for it.
