It's been that long since we played Resident Evil Village, you'll forgive us for forgetting what the inside of Castle Dimitrescu looks like. Thankfully, we could be shuffling closer to THAT promised DLC to catapult the Resident Evil story forward.
One of 2021's big hitters was Resident Evil Village, which was the much-hyped sequel to 2017's Resident Evil 7 - that was widely considered a much-needed return to form for Capcom's horror franchise. Giving us the close-up spooks of RE7's first-person perspective, some serious Resident Evil 4 vibes, and a whole host of compelling villains, it was just the right mix of classic Resiverse nonsense and pulse-pounding scares.
Are We Getting A Resident Evil Village DLC?
When the credits rolled on Village, it was clear Capcom was setting up Resident Evil 9. Still, it's sad that the gothic backdrop of this tormented realm could be glossed over in such a short space of time. No spoilers here, but given the end of Village, it definitely looks unlikely/impossible that we'll return to locales like Castle Dimitrescu or House Beneviento, but that's where a DLC comes in.
The official Resident Evil Twitter shared a haunting image of Lady Alcina Dimitrescu alongside a caption about rats, cats, and claws. The thread soon exploded with theories about a Dimitrescu DLC being on the way. Remembering The Maiden demo that served as a prequel to Ethan Winters' Village story, it's entirely possible we'll be getting something similar.
By the sounds of it, we'll be getting a Lady Dimitrescu-centric DLC, and to be honest, it makes the most sense given her fan-favourite status. We guess Capcom didn't realise just how popular "tall vampire lady" would be, meaning her role in Village is pretty limited. A prequel DLC could flesh out Lady D's tragic backstory and explain how she became the razor-clawed matriarch of the crumbling Castle Dimitrescu.
Could Ada Wong Return For A Village DLC?
One of the most frustrating "what ifs" to ever grace the franchise is the notion that Ada Wong could've appeared in Village. Early concept art showed the morally questionable spy skulking around in a plague doctor's outfit, only to reveal her true identity to Ethan later in the game. We've seen artwork of Ada in action, and we think it's just too tempting to pass up on.
Even if Ada was seemingly cut, a DLC sounds like the perfect opportunity to add her back in. All in all, we could be on the cusp of a Village DLC. It should go some way in redeeming those Capcom haters that were furious at the developer for a pretty abysmal Sony State of Play that announced a poor man's Dino Crisis. Here's hoping Lady D is ready to unfurl her wings once again.
