While we don't imagine many of you are putting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword at the top of your list for "best" Zelda games, the 2011 Wii game could be about to come back in a big way.

All eyes are on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as Nintendo prepares to usher in a new era. Being the sequel to 2017's Breath of the WildTears will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and could be one of the best video games of all time.

Who Is Fi In The Legend Of Zelda?

Fi Skyward Sword

As noted by GameRant, the various Tears of the Kingdom marketing and trailers have been teasing the return of Skyward Sword's Fi. If you need a refresher, Fi is the sentient version of the Master Sword, who was created by the goddess Hylia.

After Link has defeated Demise in Skyward Sword, the Master Sword is sent back to the Temple of Hylia and picked up again (chronologically in Four Swords). Although it's implied that Fi remains part of the Master Sword, we haven't seen her in later adventures like Breath of the Wild

The site notes that even though Breath of the Wild didn't directly feature Fi, Zelda made a throwaway reference to a voice inside the Master Sword. After completing the Trial of the Sword, the Master Sword will occasionally glow and play Fi's signature sound.

Is Fi Coming Back For Tears Of the Kingdom?

In the Tears of the Kingdom trailer, a destroyed version of the Master Sword is seen with just the hilt remaining. Couple this with Zelda saying "Lend him your power," and there's a wild theory Fi has broken free from the Master Sword and will have a larger part to play.

Originally, some speculated Link was giving his power to a playable Zelda, although it was a case of mishearing the line. Others think a playable Ganon would be part of the story, however, the idea of someone off-screen giving their power to Link also makes a lot of sense.

Remember that we had the 2021 release of Skyward Sword HD? It could all be connected. More than just going back to the start of the timeline, the remake might've been a clever way to cue up Tears of the Kingdom and remind us who Fi is.

Performing a similar role to Navi from Ocarina of Time, at least Fi is hated less than the frustrating fairy from the N64 game, still, her return would likely divide Zelda fandom. Alongside Fi, other theorists think Link's companion will be Midna from Twilight Princess. Personally, we don't think he needs one.

With the Master Sword broken in Tears of the Kingdom, we imagine part of Link's arc will involve him trying to prepare it to take out the zombified Ganon that's clearly coming back to life. Whether Fi will be along for the ride remains to be seen.
