To quote Din Djarin himself, this is the way. Although Mandalorians have been part of the Star Wars saga since the early days, it's more recently we've seen them come into their own thanks to Disney+'s The Mandalorian. The epic space western is a sharp-shooting series that seems primed for a video game adaptation, so where is it?
While we're heard plenty of arguments for why we deserve a game based on Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian, we've so far been reduced to playing as a blocky Mando in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. As the galaxy of Star Wars games grows to the size of the Death Star, it could be time to polish our Beskar armour. However, not everyone might be able to play.
What's The Mandalorian Game Rumour?
The latest scoop comes from a rather sketchy source of Twitter user Skullzi. They claim that ZeniMax Online is working on an MMORPG Mandalorian game that will presumably bring Mando and Grogu together for their own AAA adventure. Seeing the success of Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the hype surrounding the sequel, other developers would be wise to make the most of the galaxy far, far away.
More than this, Skullzi claims the Mandalorian RPG is on the way to Microsoft's new-gen consoles. Given that they've since deleted the tweet that made the bold claim, you could argue either for or against the legitimacy of the rumour. Even though we'll err on the side of caution for now, we do know ZeniMax Online has set up a new studio in San Diego and is supposedly working on a AAA IP.
Sony's Quentin Cobb left its San Diego to join ZeniMax's new setup as a Senior Designer - promising exciting news about something on the horizon back in December 2020. Given that The Mandalorian debuted in 2019, there's every chance this is the secret project.
When Could We See A Mandalorian Game?
Our dreams of a Mandalorian game are all very fanciful, but remember that XboxEra co-founder and industry insider Nick "Shpeshal Nick" Baker previously mentioned a Mandalorian RPG last year. Some questionable footage of a Mando game has appeared online, but it's been written off as a pretty realistic fake. Still, we've heard so much about a Mandalorian game, we bet someone is working on one.
God of War's Cory Barlog has thrown his hat in the ring for a title based on the surly bounty hunter, but with his ties to Sony, that almost certainly be a Sony exclusive. A first-party Mando game just doesn't seem to fit the remit of Microsoft exclusives, but then again, Phil Spencer's famous shelf did seem to tease one. We'll have to wait and see whether these rumblings in the Force are the real deal or more laughable than Jar Jar Binks himself.
