Games from the galaxy far, far away aren't in either short supply or short demand. A slew of upcoming Star Wars games are on the way, but it's not just adventure outings like Jedi: Survivor that keep fans fed. From hero shooters like Star Wars: Hunters to the blocky adventure of LEGO Star Wars, we've also had Minecraft and The Sims collabs, as well as everything in between.
One genre that Star Wars has yet to really dabble in is the business simulation series. While we had Star Wars: Tiny Death Star and Star Wars: Episode I - The Gungan Frontier, the franchise is crying out for more simulation games. Now, fans have conjured up their own brilliant brainwave for a Zoo Tycoon-inspired Star Wars game.
Star Wars fans pitch a Zoo Tycoon-inspired game
The wide world of Star Wars has always been great at conjuring up fantastic creatures, from Wookiees to Purrgils, Porgs to Kowakian monkey-lizards, we've seen them all. Over on X (formerly Twitter), @RachelKenobi suggested we take this menagerie of creatures and give them a game inspired by Blue Fang Games' Zoo Tycoon.
Those of us of a certain age will remember booting up Zoo Tycoon back in 2001 and struggling to get our Mexican Gray Wolves to settle in the right environment. The game spawned the beloved Dinosaur Digs and Marine Mania expansions, while Blue Fang released Zoo Tycoon 2 in 2004.
Although Blue Fang worked on the Nintendo DS ports, the studio ultimately closed in 2011. The Zoo Tycoon name lived on under Frontier Developments' 2013 remaster and 2019's Planet Zoo. The future of the franchise doesn't look like it's going anywhere, so what about a Star Wars revamp?
The OP shared a collage of different creatures, including Porgs, Fathiers, Mogus, and Vulptexes. Like Zoo Tycoon, imagine each of them requiring a unique type of habitat, where players have to manage their needs.
When one person asked whether this would be a Star Wars expansion for Zoo Tycoon, they said it would be a Jurassic World Evolution-inspired game all of its own. One fan cheered, "I remember there being a few star wars zoo tycoon mods back in the day. But a full roster of creatures and an in-universe story would be so fantastic!"
Another added, "A game I didn’t know I needed………until now," and a third said, "I’d give too much money!" As the galaxy shows no sign of slowing down, it seems inevitable that someone will eventually see the money-making potential of a Star Wars zoo sim. In the meantime, we'll go back to modding the OG Zoo Tycoon.
