Bethesda's long-awaited Starfield is finally on the horizon, with the game scheduled to release on September 6, 2023. June's Xbox Games Showcase gave fans a deep dive into Starfield and some of the exciting features they can expect to encounter on their galactic journey.
Despite this, exploration is without a doubt the most anticipated feature, with the devs promising players over 100 unique star systems to explore. Well, one hardcore fan has managed to piece together a mockup of the game's entire map, using just six seconds of trailer footage.
Starfield fan recreates the game's galaxy map
Following the trailer that gave us a six-second glimpse at the game's star systems, coder Sebastian Werhausen has been creating the unbelievably impressive Starfield Navigator.
The tool effectively provides fans with an interactive Starfield map ahead of launch, locating the specific positions of star systems in-game and identifying the distance from one another. It's baffling that using just six seconds of footage, Werhausen has managed to label 75 of the 100 star systems promised at launch.
"About ~75 stars systems were visible, some of them with names... Among those, three star names were real: Sol, Alpha Centauri and Porrima... That implied that the world of Starfield is based on and located in the Milky Way," revealed Werhausen on the Starfield Navigator site.
How big is the Starfield map?
While we'll have to wait until Starfield's September 6 release to truly get a perspective on the game's size, Bethesda has revealed a lot of interesting details. These include that there will be 100 star systems and over 1000 planets for players to freely explore to their heart's content.
The question will obviously be, how diverse are these planets in terms of appearance and do they all have unique secrets to discover? Each planet is said to be bigger than the Skyrim map, but whether it'll be actual habitats or just procedurally generated emptiness remains to be seen.
For now, the true size and scope of Starfield is a mystery. We've got to admit, those folks at Bethesda have certainly got fans excited, so let's see if they can deliver something special.
