While Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is everywhere right now, Michael "shroud" Grzesiek has issued developer at Mediatonic a stark warning and explained how he thinks the battle royale title needs to evolve if it's going to survive. Despite dominating social media and even taking over League of Legends as the most-streamed game on Twitch, there are already questions about where Fall Guys can really go next and how long it will be until the inevitable bubble bursts.
Fall Guys' relative simple premise sees 60 players take control of adorable little figures call beans and deck them out in a variety of outfits. As your beans are chucked into a variety of different games and whittled down to the final few, it's a mad dash for the crown and to claim the title of champion. Although Mediatonic is pretty on it right now in terms of marketing and adding updates, how long it really be before we start getting bored?
Speaking on his Twitch stream, Shroud said the growing competitive nature of Fall Guys could be its downfall. The 26-year-old extraordinaire warned that losing its party game edge would be disastrous for Fall Guys. "Fall Guys is going to die real quick for sure. After playing it, there is no way it will be any more exciting for any longer unless they add maps quickly", said shroud. He continued, "I don't care about playing with f*****g strangers dude. Customs would be like, okay-ish, but you can already gather that many people together. I just wish it was more of a party game than what it already is".
Custom lobbies is a big must for fans who are sick of the current four-stack queuing system. Elsewhere, new maps makes sense as a way to keep players coming back for more. Thankfully, there's good news on the horizon thanks to the upcoming rollout of Season 2. Mediatonic has a big announcement coming to Gamescom that will set out a clear roadmap for Fall Guys' future.
Developers have already teased what's on the horizon - including four new game modes. Players know that Treasure Hunt, Chicken Chase, 100-player Door Dash, and Wall Guys are coming soon. Other features fans have suggested include split-screen co-op or the ability for players to create their own maps. Whether developers have listened to their ravenous fanbase remains to seen.
As more and more people push for Fall Guys to capitalise on its esports potentials, the game is at a crossroads that could make or break it. Just like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds started strong and dipped off, we'll have to wait and see whether Fall Guys has the cojones to move with the times or rest on its laurels. Only time will tell whether Mediatonic has listened to Shroud's Fall Guys warning.
