With Call of Duty faltering, there are many up-and-coming games that are capitalising and taking chunks out of its throne.

The recent XDefiant Closed Beta has already proved that CoD's ecosystem is more fragile than we could have imagined, with the title even beating both MW2 and Warzone on Twitch.

But as we wait for XDefiant to release in full following the closure of their beta test, Call of Duty has a new rival. Players are flocking to it instead of the "trash" Modern Warfare 2.

Combat Master is the next Call of Duty rival to pick up steam

With more and more FPS games on the horizon, such as Dr Disrespect's divisive Deadrop and the recently announced over-realistic police-based game called Unrecord, Call of Duty players are looking elsewhere for their gun-action fix.

Combat Master is making quite an entrance after its release on Steam on April 21, as the PC title relies on movement and core aim, removing aim assist from the equation and cranking up the speed.

After netting a 9.5/10 rating on Steam, Combat Master is attracting some high-profile Call of Duty players , while FaZe Clan's Jason "Jev" Eugene is loving it.

FaZe Jev thinks Combat Master is better than 'trash MW2'

Following the XDefiant Beta, FaZe Jev is one of millions that have ditched Call of Duty. He has now moved on to Combat Master, and after just one session, the "CoD Clone" game is already keeping him off MW2.

"This game is ridiculous," he said in a recent YouTube upload. "Look at the movement. There is no way I could play this game for hours on end and not develop the most insane case of carpal tunnel."

"This game is a work in progress but genuinely fun," he added, preferring it over the "absolute trash-can, gutter-juiced, disease-riddled, parasite-infected state of Call of Duty," that is Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

The high-paced arcade shooter is beginning to pick up more plaudits on PC, and despite not being able to tackle console players, it's proving to be quite a fun alternative to the stale CoD experience.
