Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port potentially leaked online

A Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port has seemingly leaked online, but players are warned not to get their hopes up about Rockstar's next potential release.

Arthur Morgan could be riding back into town on his trusty steed, destined to pull his pistol and (potentially) shoot up another console. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched back in 2018, and while there are whispers of a new-gen remaster, there are also rumbles of a Nintendo Switch port.

While 2010's Red Dead Redemption already set out its stall as a gaming great - putting the GTA formula on a Spaghetti Western - that was nothing compared to the scope of its epic successor. Delivering a heartfelt prequel that made John Marston's story look like a walk in the park, few games hit home like RDR2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port teased online

As is the norm with modern games, Nintendo Switch players tend to miss out on these darker titles. Then again, like we've seen a slow trickle of more adult titles like Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat, the cowboy caper might be finding a new home. After all, we recently got Red Dead Redemption on Switch.

The idea of a Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port comes courtesy of a Brazilian ratings site, which has seemingly spoiled the surprise ahead of time. Given the recent run of Rockstar ports for Switch, it was only a matter of time that RDR2 came to Switch... or whichever console Nintendo is working on next.

It's unclear whether this was a simple mistake by listing Switch next to the available platforms for Red Dead Redemption 2, but either way, sceptics are worried about how the game would even be handled. RDR2's graphics are still impressive by today's standard, with worries it would leave your Switch as a puddle of molten plastic.

When the leak was shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, one gamer wrote, "I HOPE this is for Switch 2." Another added, "The '2' in 'Red Dead Redemption 2' is for the targeted FPS," while a third warned, "This is going to be the ugliest game in existence lmao."

Where's our Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster?

Although there are obvious worries that a Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port would be another shambling cash cow akin to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, the RDR Switch release has restored some faith in Rockstar's revamp of classic games.

Still, there are sure to be those who'd prefer a new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster to tide us over until the (hopeful) release of Red Dead Redemption 3. The recent leak of Microsoft documents hinted at a RDR2 remaster, but with these being a few years old, we'll take them with a pinch of salt.

Even though Rockstar would be foolish to put Red Dead out to pasture just yet, we're not sure running Red Dead Redemption 2 on Switch would be anything more than watching a potato ride around a polygonal wasteland. Don't say we didn't warn you.
