As we approach the mid-point of the console generation, expectations are starting to rise. Not only are players gearing up for a brand-new Nintendo console, but many are expecting some hardware upgrades from Microsoft after brutal leaks from the Xbox camp last year.

We're just about getting to that point in the generation, and with GTA 6 on the horizon, hardware companies are likely seeing the prophecy (and profits) foretold in its huge sales.

Rumours of PlayStation working on a PS5 Pro model in time for GTA 6's launch have been swirling with little resistance, and fans are hoping for an announcement anytime soon. Now, it looks like there's more proof than ever that the console refresh is coming.

PlayStation 5 Pro specs revealed in tell-all article

The Verge Senior Editor Tom Warren has revealed a wealth of details about the expected PS5 Pro model in a new article. According to internal documents, the console features an upgraded GPU and CPU mode, encouraging developers to push for ray-tracing and advanced visual effects. The rumoured console is codenamed Trinity.

Games that make significant enough tweaks will reportedly be allowed to use a "Trinity Enhanced" label (which will presumably be renamed by the time the console is revealed). This PS5 Pro is supposed to offer 45% faster GPU rendering than its predecessor and use faster system memory to allow for more impressive visual effects, utilising "more powerful ray tracing architecture."

Warren claims that developer kits are already being sent out to game teams, but the most compelling thing about the reveals isn't the data inside them but Sony's reaction. It looks like the gaming giant is already trying to bury these leaks.

PS5 Pro video hit with copyright claim

As details for the PS5 Pro begin to flood the internet, YouTubers are picking it up and running to their audiences with it. Sony seems to object, indicating that the details shared could be more real than we thought.

Warren took to Twitter to warn that a PS5 Pro video on the Moore's Law is Dead YouTube channel has been hit with a "copyright claim by Sony Interactive Entertainment." In many cases, this indicates that internal documents shared in the video are legitimate, giving the company grounds to issue the claim.

We ultimately won't know until the PS5 Pro is revealed, and if we're lucky, these reveals could lead to an announcement that'll land sooner rather than later. It looks like Generation 9.5 might almost be here.
